Well this evening i took my Hydra 350 out to Apex park and got it up. Any thoughts anyone would have had about learning without lessons would well and truly fade into the distance ( im going the lesson route anyway ) .

It was about 20kmh tonight and no jokes, when i was sitting and pulled a power stroke it put me straight up on my feet ( im about 89kg, i was to afraid to really nail it properly being first time out with it).
So then i laid down flat on the grass and it did the same thing and it pulled me straight up, but i did do a down turn to get it pulling though but still not full tilt.

What a blast, how you guys handle those big bludgers of things is amazing and i dips my lid to ya's

Peterdj, 3.5 m. trainer kites is about as big as they come, preferable to fly this kind of size in light winds first 8-15 knots. The wind was not 20 km/h in your area tonight, it was 20 KNOTS + which equals to about 37 Km/h.

Your trainer kite is a foil type kite, lighter and more powerful than an inflatable kite of the same size. Also, seems you launched and looped the kite through the power zone... no wonder you got dragged in that kind of wind in the power zone... on that note, I would recommend buying the newer beginner progression DVD at your local kite shop / school before taking your lessons, this will speed up your progression massively.

this is a good start...

good luck with the rest. play safe.

hehe , yeah i miss read the graph when i got home.
I didn't loop just did a down turn into the power zone rather than an up turn. It's actually easy to control than the stunt kites i have , less twitchy.
But a hell of alot more power.
It was more to find out what power was there. Ive had smaller foils before but rarely with any pull at all or little at the most (1.2 mtr) . So it was a good test and heaps of fun. I have been considering getting that dvd but the same info is out there like in the kiting handbook, only difference is that there is no nice talky narration.
