Newbies - please do not EVER kite near (within 10kms) or in the path of a storm
This guy was lucky he could get someone to help, but he should have let go of the kite entirely in my view.

At about 1:45 he changes his safety leash, looks like he saw what was coming and from there had less than a minute before it hit. But it's a brave man, or a fool, that hangs onto a bow-tied kite, on solid ground, in what looks like 45+ knots...

Bloody lucky fella, if that kite took had of taken off he would have had no chance at all to quick release it.

Seen this before, when i was first learning to kitesurf, scared the **** out of me.

What I don't get though, is why he's trying to mouth off at the person with the dog for not running after his kite. Its not their responsibility, they're probably trying to look after themselves.

Yeah, if i remember well, when big black cloud is near (5-10 km's), wind always dies before it even comes closer, so u actually try to avoid getting bagged offshore. But this looked pretty bad even in the start. Good thing area around had no obstacles, ****** scary!

for what appears to be an experienced kiter he should have punched out on water and waited it out then hooked back in and kept going .

Totally agree with you. I've had to ask "beach walkers" to take my kite a few times, but I never just point and yell at them to grab the kite assuming they know what they're doing. Always approach and ask first. They may actually enjoy it.

Oh, i think i would do the same. Well i am still noob but..... Hail hitting me in the head, wind howling behind my neck.... I THINK i would not even hit safety, just try to hold centerlines and get towards it but... Panic factor right?

Never ask or rely on random beach users to catch your kite particularly in a 30+ knot squall. They can injure you and themselves. Either get a fellow kitesurfer to catch the kite. next best is teather land.. You can't walk likes in 30+ knots its too windy. If you can't solo land pull the safety. Better yet when its realty howling. Pull the safety while you and the kite are still in the water. The water will kill more of the kite power. in 40 plus knots its next to impossible to walk up a safety line on a 6m kite without getting your hands burnt/injured.

On a side note. No squall like this is unpredictable. It can be seen for hours in advance on rain radar. plus when in the water it can be seen approaching for perhaps 20-30 minutes. There is no excuse to be caught in a squall.

Either rig a small enough kite to ride out the squall or land your kite 10 minutes before the squall hits or better yet, wait for the squall to pass then go kiting afterward.

Or... Get gloves for line management in 40+ :D

Well, not always is seen on time, depends on terrain. Our seaside starts with mountains almost 90% of the time and most of the devil comes over the mountains or stays behind it, but still, u can "predict it" like 10-15 mins before which is alot of time if u decide not to risk it right away.

But y, so hard to spend 30 sec on "accuweather"? :\
