Every time I kite in Perth I seem to be collecting other people's board (2 in the past 2 days)
Iv seen a few people try the old one hand scoop whilst going but then stalling in the water but the eaiest way by far for a board with a handle is to hook your thumbs in the handle then grab the bar with you hands and dive the kite to get going. Then you can hold the board one handed or whatever you want to do.
Just a handy tip to help your fellow kiters doing self rescues or can't find their board :)
I have had the same difficulty in rescuing someone's board. I couldn't manage to waterstart once I had retrieved it, so had to awkwardly drift/body drag back to shore pushing their board in front of me while trying not to lose mine on my feet. Was a real drag but I know what its like to loose a board and couldn't just leave it drift out to sea.
Thanks for the tip I will try it again when the opportunity inevitably comes up.
Helping other kiters who are down in the water should be a priority.
I pull up next to the board and take my safety leach off and connect it to the handle and then ride into the beach. Its fairly dangerous as the board can hit you in the back of the legs. I have used this way a few times after failing to pick the board up
