Get some professional training from a reputable kite school mate. It'll pay off tenfold from a safety point of view. Also you'll find it hard to find anyone to willing to lend you their gear other than a kite school. Beginners frequently crash kites severely.

uhmm no ...currently there are no kite schools in the area ....closest used to be at old bar but i am not sure whether they are still operating !
there is a face book group for cathie but there is no-one who is currently instructing....
although i am sure they would be happy to give you some info despite the fact most of them are cranky crusty old farts !

Good luck Surfingfreak :)

ps. we aren't all crusty old farts but it is a tricky spot to learn because we have no flat water.

How to kite surf in five simple steps:

1. Book and do your 1st lesson
2. Book and do your 2nd lesson
3. Book and do your 3rd lesson
4. Book and do your 4th lesson
5. Book and do your 5th lesson

Now you can start to learn and practice water start, riding and gradual up wind control, etc.

In about 2 seasons...

Boosts, Olleys, Rails, 720s, Jesus Walk, etc etc...

Have fun

Simple, Download the learn to Kite dvd off the net. Watch it twice.

Skip the trainer kite, no need for it.

Get a 12m kite and go out in 15 - 18kts. Helps if you have a mate help you launch.

Also make sure there is nothing down wind of you.

Heaps of guys on hear are self taught, just have a go, and do the steps that the DVD shows you. It should take you about 2hrs to get up and going.

I tried to teach myself. Big fail. Maybe it was me...

Lessons accelerated my learning as I got real time feedback. Once you're up and running I'd agree you can teach yourself a lot with feedback from the fellas on the beach and tips online.

That bring said I'm keen to get another lesson to learn how to get some massive air. Don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm not gonna continue doing mediocre jumps much longer!

Plenty of flat water in Old Bar and ask for Chris down that way to teach you. He lives in Foster

1. Buy cheap gear which u will probably break anyway with sthing like a 7 and 12
2. U can teach yrself with dvds if u have a water inflatable 2m trainer such as ozone
3 you will definitely need three hrs lessons some do it in two of they allready have board control

Totally recommend ##inflatable## trainer ozone which u will learn all on...just sell it when u have moved on from it..with this u can learn all

Bye
