As a novice learning better kite control, I noticed that if I don't almost immediately dive out the kite from the power zone, it will keep going to the edge window and slow down or fall altogether. This I notice happening a lot if I bring it to 10 or 11 and then through the power zone over to 2. By the time it passes 1, the kite continues through to three and bang it drops! Is there a technique to know when to quickly bring and park the kite?

what type of kite is it.? i'm presuming its a fixed bridle trainer kite. Your flying out of the wind window. either you have light or gusty wind or the kite isn't trimmed right.

u need more wind, if the kite is stalling/falling and your sheeted in theres not enough wind for that size kite, put up a bigger one. I,ve read that one guide to test your kite for the wind conditions is that if you sheet in with the kite at the side of the window it should have enough power to drag you.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It's a hybrid 4-line 10mtr kite. In 17knot to 22knots or 25knots it should handle ok. I am 84kilos.

But the bridle point you made could be the issue. Is there a way to know if the bridles have been put on properly? I always connect my outside lines to the "middle" knot (there are three). Maybe I should put it all the way to the first knot from the kite? Oh and I also have the trim fully powered when I launch.

I going to give it a go on the first knot today (predicted 15 to 20knots) and see how I go.

ps. One thing I did notice was that I may have been going to 11 and then back to 1oclock sort of "angular" to the wind window. ie: from the front of the wind window INTO the wind window and hence the kite stayed too close to the edge. It's hard to know what your back is doing when putting on the board and controlling the kite at the same time.

Sounds to me that you have too much sheet on
Ie: you have the bar pulled to far in and it is choking the kite at the edge of the wind window
Is it backstalling at the edge ?
Try easing the bar out a bit and then in to find the sweet spot... You have to allow the kite to "fly" itself.

Also

How old is your kite ?
It could be that your front lines have stretched ( they all eventually do ) and you may need to lengthen you back lines by changing knots. To even things up again.

ok so your on an inflatable hydrid. Scap my first advice. All inflatables will do what you are saying. its a characteristic of loads of depower at the bar.

You have to fly them actively at the edge of the window. too much bar in and it will back stall, not enough and it will hindenburg. You need to find the magic spot somewhere in the middle that works.

Before you get the board out practice just parking the kite at the edge of the window down low and pull the bar in and let it out slowly. you should see when it starts to stall or hindenburg. find the magic bar placement inbwteen and that will be were you want to hold the bar when putting your board on.

note: in gusty winter wind the wind window expands and contracts with the gusts. So to will the sweet spot. So in gusty wind you will have to be moving the bar constantly in and out to keep the kite in the air when its park at the edge.

@plummet:
Thanks! That is a really good tip to find that "sweet spot". I will try that one for sure. Yeah, the kite plummets (no pun intended) when I swing it over from 11 to 1 or 2oclock, even after I pull on the left side of the bar. Maybe I am not doing it quickly enough? I think the best really, is for me to have another refresher lesson having a pro seeing what I do and correcting it on the spot.

I've just quickly read this thread; have you checked your line lengths? I know you're new to things but your last post suggests line stretch - unless it's happening on both sides of the window.

Get someone to check for you if you don't know how or follow this link:
