Any USEFULL POLITE input would be helpfull on the following :

I recently decided to get back into kiteboarding after 12mths off, I have always had cabrinha sb's 8-14. This season I wanted to focus more on wakestyle moves so after reading all the information I could possibly find and reviews I decided on a North Vegas 12mtr as I hit gym pretty hard and weigh in at nearly 90kgs. I ordered and recieved it. The first session was different from what I expected light bar pressure nice easy unhooked raily's with good height but it was in a river mouth on outgoing tide with bout 12knots. I hear that is the only reason were getting water time?...Ever since then regardless of teh wind strength or setting changes on kite and bar I cant get comfortable on the kite. In perfectly flat water th kite rides well enuf although upwind ability is extremely limited. In chop ther is no upwind ability whatsover at most I can just hold ground...barely. Sent boosts are a joke and unhooking is becoming difficult unless Im pelting down wind first. I have also found every time I try and edge hard or even sit my weight back against the kite to either get upwind or relax a bit the kite just moves forward in the window, I loose all mometum and power and I have to work the kite to get going again...constantly. I didnt realise I wiould have to be so gentle with the pressure Im putting against the kite considering its a new 12mt c kite...as I have been heading out lately other riders tell me to be carefull cause the wind is strong for my vegas, only to leave me just as dissapointed and frustrated as I was in moderate wind 15knots. What am I doing wrong? I just wanna punch this kite in the face..I ride a caliber 133x41...maybe im suited to a bow kite better?...any friendy advice or tips??

Hi Wezls,

Why not just ask the guys from the shop you bought it from to give you a hand. Your experiences are not at all in line with my own on the Vegas, nor of my Vegas buying customers, they are all satisfied.

They go upwind well, are moderate on bar pressure, a bit heavy to steer in my opinion, boost well, loop hard and are very direct in steer and feel. Unhooking should be a piece of cake and power shouldn't be an issue at all.

I weigh about the same as you and ride a 135 Tempo but can get going on the 9m Vegas in about 17 knots, so something is wrong. Did you buy it new or second hand?

Thanks yup already given it to the owner of the store i bought it from just have to wait until he rides it to check it out he said he is going to ride another one back to back so they can get a comparison. I understand everywhere I look I see good feedback on the kite maybe I have a dud not sure, maybe its me 2 I cant work it out Ive bin kiting for 2-3yrd now...someone has told me that riding a c kite is so different from a bow that I need to actually "learn" to ride them. I accept its my first c kite but surely it shouldnt be this difficult?! Ive had 4 or 5 sessions on it a few hours at a time in differing conditions and no real improvements...if they find nothing wrong with it maybe I should just sell it and go back to cabrinha sb's....

Hey wezls,

It sounds like it may be a 5th line too short. Not sure, I'll be interested in hearing what the retailer said about it once he/she has taken it for a spin.

Keep us informed.

Riding a c-hybrid is a bit different to riding a bow,on a bow you can be a bit on the lazy side and still get it to preform fairly well, on a c-hybrid you have to get your board speed up first but once you do you can rip moves with ease, been riding mainly bows myself for the last few years but now spend more time on a bridled c and at first it was a bit different but you def have to change your riding style to get the most out on the kite, its all good though once you dial it in so hang in there.

DM sounds right. Either 5th line is too short or you aren't trimming it correctly and oversheeting?

If you are coming from Cabrinha background then you will have to change your riding style and learn to trim the kite correctly.

How did u get on with the shop wezls? Has it all been sorted out?

I moved from a Rebel to a Vegas this season as well and found it a bit difficult to start with. While the kite felt great i had all sorts of issues with the low end power. I weigh in at 96kg and ride a 12m and a 9m here in Adelaide. Ive found that unless im prepared for a bit of a walk up the beach i wont go out in anything less than 17 or 18 knots on my 12m. Alternatively ive resorted to jumping on a surfboard in lighter conditions. Anything over 18 knots though and i have no issues maintaining ground or crusing up wind. I went for the Vegas this season as i wanted to improve my kite flying skills rather than become a lazy rider like can happen on a bow. It will definately take some time but once u have it dialled its a great little kite.
