Hi,
I am looking for some advice on the right gear to buy.
When I took up snowboarding i didnt get how important getting the right board and boots was, so I took the advice of some bloke in a shop and ended up with a small cruise liner for a board and boots that could sink a cruise liner!
Im 5' 11" and weight about 82kgs.
Just wondering what length board, size kite would be a good buy - but not one ill get bored with as soon as i get the hang of it.
Do boards have different flex? Any brands better value for money.
Would really appreciate any help I could get.
Cheers.

Which part of Aus are you from? This will dictate a lot as to what gear, sizes etc you will need.
The first thing you need to do is to get lessons, don't get gear before you know more about the sport, after 2-3 lessons you are going to have a good idea on different types of gear sizes and different boards. Depending on how far you progress by the end of your lessons will also affect the gear you get.
At 84 kgs you will need a board that is 134-136cm and around 41 cm wide. Kites for best conditions you should have 2 a 12-13m and a 8-9m to cover nearly all kiteable wind conditions. There is a lot of difference between different types of gear so do your research ask questions and you should end up with the right gear.

The guy whos giving you lessons will know whats best for your area and dont be afraid to start off with a bigginers kit then get better later you will get going quicker and have more fun that way, just dont get to smaller kite or board to start with or you will struggle
Have fun

trainer kite or two string stunt kite . then chat to as many kiters as posible
i just got a takoon furia o9 9metre and its heaps user friendly but fly's fast thro the air:)
start with any board u get your hands on, but not a wake board to start with as to much rocker is harder to keep your speed .
get out ther , be safe , and carve it :)

for melbourne you will be looking at a 12m kite and a 132-138cm board for a one kite quiver. If your living in St Kilda head down to the marina and get some lessons before you buy any gear. It will be worthwhile in the long run

Rather than getting a trainer kite, put the money to better use and get a couple of lessons. There comes a point when your just wasting time with a trainer kite and for most people its very early on (15-60 mins).
I'm simular size/weight and also from Melbourne and for the last couple of seasons I have only had a 12m kite that has catered from 15-30 knots. 90%+ of summer is 12m weather.
