Another noob, just completed my lessons at pinas and keen to develop my skills in this exciting sport.

Time to get some gear. Will be sailing Perth Metro beaches / Pinnas / Pelican Point with the ultimate aim of down winders on a surfboard from Citi Beach to Trigg .. in the future of course.

Kites I am looking at include Ozone Reo / North Rebel / BWS Noise / Switch Method and there is a Core Riot XR for sale currently in the buy and sell section that could be suitable.

Probably get 1 kite this year and another next year so probably go a 10 metre this year and pack down when the wind gets stronger (and until I get better).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hey mate, I was like you wanting to get into surf eventually down the track. I got a 10m BWS noise to learn on and couldn't be happier and it will be awsome once I start kitesurfing later down the track. I'm 73 kgs and can get going in 12knts which is great. All the other ones you've listed were also reccomended to me when I was looking for a kite so should all be good for learning, although I'm not sure about the switch.

Thanks for the feedback Jackfa. The idea of a new kite over a second hand kite for the same price does appeal so long as the quality of the Noise is comparable to the more established brands.

Still going to have a chat to the local shop and see what they advise also. Glad to hear you went straight from lessons to the BWS Noise. Its a bit windier here in Perth and though I am 80kg, I was advised that the 8m Noise is comparable to 10m kites in other brands so that may be a better option.

All good kites.

Consider the Ozone Catalyst if you are looking at Ozones - the Catalyst is a better all-rounder compared to the Reo.

The Rebel is probably the better quality wise out of the kites listed, and is also a very good all-rounder, although you pay for it. Can't go wrong with this kite.

Noise is a dedicated wave kite so maybe an all-rounder would be better as a first kite? Be aware of BWS sizing differences, eg the 10m is actually more like a 12m and will be quite different to the 10m Reo for example.

Haven't flown Switch but reports are good.

Not about to start a 'this is better than' that debate. Everyones opinion varies and for my 2cents as long as you are happy with your choice its allgood.
But I would like to confirm that the build quality of the Noise is right up there with any of the 'established' brands. Check feature by feature for yourself. Its pretty much indisputable.
Every brand will have certain build characteristics that truly rate but taken as a whole BWS is, at the very least, on par with the best.
