Hi Guys!

Does anybody here offer private kiting lessons that are not super expensive like the ones at the schools?

I have one lesson up my sleeve but it was quite a while ago. Also, when does the season end?

Thanks

Michael

bite the bullet! if you don't have enough money for proper lessons your probably not gonna have enough cash for more than one kite so i wouldn't bother getting into the sport

Why wouldn't you start with it if you have only one kite? Just means that you can't go out in all conditions.

But definitely get professional lessons, if you're good you shouldn't need more then one or two. Or find someone with a trainer kite, master that and then get a lesson or two

Thats a bit harsh...

I am fortunate to afford some great kit... But I always look for a bargain... It appeases the wife.

In fairness, the costs of tuition, under pinned by insurance, kit, beach or council permits, paying instructors a reasonable wage probably leaves only a small profit margin... That said, Australia has a free market and if people want to be entrepreneurial...

I learnt to fly aircraft thanks to the benevolent efforts of an instructor who gave his time freely when money was tight. We struck up a lasting friendship... The point I make is there are people out there, maybe new instructors who would be willing to support newbies with limited means... Good on them!

Kite surfing is a fairly expensive sport, more so in Australia than other parts of the world...

The guy should be congratulated for appreciating the importance of lessons, maintaining the reputation of kite surfing and protecting fellow beach users and himself/herself!!

Sorry if this has been aked before.
Can I ask what is classed as enough hours spent with a school. Would this be on average enough, yes I do know not everyone advances at the same pace.

(4 HOUR LESSON (1 or 2 days) -

$360 per person

First 2 hours: same as 2 hour lesson

Second 2 hours:

Water starts with kite board

Safety with the kite board in the water).

Or more like this,

(8 HOUR LESSONS (4 Days) - $675 per person

Course covers same as in 4 hour lesson

More kitesurf safety , Refining and enhancing skills in the water, How to edge

How to jibe the kite, How to jibe the board, How to work upwind)

They are really good rates by Sydney standards ..... less than 100/hour.

I am Sorry was a bit harsh I just feel it very important getting proper lessons from a reputable instructor. Money spent is worth it's weight in gold.

In regard to hours required for learning. I did one on one lessons and spent 1 and a half hour in body dragging , half an hour with safety and rescue and a 2 hours on water starts and I was ready to go.

Then took me about 7 or 8 days to hold ground and get rid of the poo stance ( did this over a 2 week period) practice is the key.

It really helps in my opinion if you have a stunt or trainer kite!

Good luck

Totally agree... I had one formal three hour lesson and a couple of hours a day over a three 'under the wing' of an instructor who provided top tips by observing my lack of style... Simple advice made a difference an was great for confidence.

I'd second/third the 'proper' lesson approach. It's not intrinsically dangerous as other activities (riding motorbike on the road say) but you can *quickly* get yourself in trouble if you don't know what you're doing (in the nicest way)..

How so? Kites and boards arent that much more expensive than they are in Europe or the US (from the O/S online sites I've checked out anyway). Of course lessons will cost you more here, especially than in places like the Philippines etc but at least it's a one off - you'll soon get over it and forget about that...

Compared to a lot of other water sports eg: Water skiing, wake boarding, sailing, boat fishing, even scuba diving - I reckon it's cheap as.

I would agree, compared to Scuba a lot cheaper. I would have no problem spending (4 HOUR LESSON (1 or 2 days) - $360 per person)
and maybe more if I feel a bit uncertain at the end.

Fair enough... Just bought a kite today that is cheaper than the Uk... My point is more about people's ability to pay than an objective comparison of relative cost...
