I'm starting out kiting in Melbourne, I weigh about 82Kg's and I'm 6" tall. I've been borrowing my mates 2010 model North (unknown model) 12m kite (he weighs about 95kg's 6"7). I've used this kite in winds from 15 - 20 knots and it didn't feel too powerful.

I'm looking to purchase 2010 model or newer second hand Delta shaped kite. Could anyone recommend the most appropriate size/model kite to learn on and which size should i buy next if i want to be kiting in Melbourne this winter.

Yeah probably 11m or 12m will suit. A few models that will do you well:
