Hi

I'm in the Gladstone region on holiday and was wanting to continue my kite lessons. I've been told that Tannum sands is a great spot for a learner so was looking into it. I've looked on the net and there is a link to Intheloop at Tannum but the facebook page hasn't been updated for over a year. Does anyone know if they are still operating in this location? I've tried the numbers on the web page but havent got connected.

Is there anyone else running lessons up there?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I'm actually at Agnes as it goes. I've been in touch with the guy here but hes booked up at the moment.

Also the swells are strong here right now and so lessons on main beach aren't going to be too useful to me given my skill level (or lack thereof).

WRT my lessons. I've done about 10 hrs but all in the shallow bayside waters of Brisbane. I can waterstart and go left (natural) reasonably reliably going right I'm less reliable at. This is all in relative flat knee to waist deep water where I can waterstart from sitting and then de power the kite and step off the board as I want.

Shame that the school up at Tannum seems to have wrapped up. Might try getting on to the bloke here again but it looks like the wind is about to disappear till the new year so I may well be disappointed either way.

I think you're probably right. I need to gather up my confidence and have a crack. Im in the area till the 8th so will hopefully get to see some wind next week. Your offer of help is much appreciated. I'll keep an eye out but if you see someone with a completely new yellow switch 13 getting dragged through the dunes, before we touch base, come and say hi .

Hi Ray.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) it's a while since the bathroom scales were reading in only double figures. So hopefully it's about the right size.

That said I'm not planning to try flying it if the winds are getting near or above 20knots.

The forcast looks to be a bit stronger so Im not expecting to be doing much in the coming days. It's a bit over an hours drive away so not sure if I'll get chance to come up just to watch.

Im hugely frustrated at the moment. Not helped by having a load of brand new unused gear sitting in the corner of the room (which just feels humiliating tbh). I had been hoping to get a bit further while I'm on holiday and have a bit of spare time but it's turning into a complete wash out.

My inner optimist is still hopeful of acheiving something though.

After studiously following the forecasts I've decided to head up to Tannum tomorrow to give it a whirl. Will hopefully pitch up some time around 1.30 - 2 ish. Hopefully catch you there.

I'm a bit concerned that the winds will be a bit on the high side, however I've spent the last week or so making sure that I'm not going to be underweight. Hopefully I can find someone to help me get the new kite airborne (and back to earth again) without incident.

Sorry mate been working the last 2 days ..always the way when the wind comes back up but im on night shift for the next 3 nights so ill be kiting from about lunch till about 4 if its not bucketing down ..If you want to have a look at what the beach is doing before you head up to Tannum there is a web cam..just Google GPC
[Gladstone port corporation]and then go into beach webcams click on tannum ....it doesn't tell you what the wind speed is but it will give you an idea of the conditions. Most people kite to the right of where the cam is pointing so don't be discouraged if you don't see any kites .. I kited on Tuesday ..you didn't miss much ,gusty as f@#k..
looks like you are having a fat time with the waves down there anyway.
