Hi,
I am new to the sport having surfed on and off for many years. I had my 5 hours of lessons and after that gone out and bought a kit on gumtree. I'm 82 kg and the kit I found was just about a perfect fit. Board 138 cm never been wet, harness never used, 12m kite flown once where the guy go the biggest fright of his life and decided the sport wasn't for him.

The kite is a 2009 North Vegas with a 5 string bar, I known not the perfect kite to start with but like everyone finance, (And the wife) are factors! I've been down on the sand to fly it a bit and it's still 50:50 who is in charge. Reading the manual I can see two settings for the outer most strings - at the tip or a couple of centimetres in. Mine is currently set up at the tips. Would moving these strings in make the kite more stable and easy to fly?

Thanks for the feedback.

Not the best choice but No reason why you won't be able to get going
The relaunch of the loaded 5th line kites takes a bit of work compared to most other kites
The 5th line at the kites pigtail can be tuned for more or less power,
The steering rear lines can also be tweeked for bar feel responsive handling, not sure on the 09 model but it may have 2 settings for optional riding styles,
Get a decent rider to check it out for you

If you're referring to the rear steering lines, the settings on the wing tip furthest to the back should be light bar preasure and the ones a few cm in should be a harder bar preasure with a bit more feel of where the kite is.

If referring to the front power lines, the settings highest up the leading edge should be a "higher depower" setting and ones furthest down a lower depower ( more of a wake style setting )

Haven't flown an 09 oldest I've flown is a 2012. On my current Vegas I use high de power and hard bar settings in strong winds (boosting) and low depower and hard bar settings in optimal wind conditions (wakestyle). Would probably recommend a learner on a Vegas to use the high depower settings first if the 09 has that option

Thanks Cauncy & Matt,
It sounds like my 09 has the same set up as the 12.
With the info you have given me I have gone back and reread the manual.
I'll be moving the rear steering lines in from the tip for harder bar pressure and the front flylines in for more depower.

Set me straight if I'm wrong!
Cheers

Yep try that. There's not many combinations on the kite so play around and find what works best for you. Sheeting the bar in will have a bit more responsiveness on the hard settings, just be sure to get a feel for it first as you don't need as much travel to get the same results as the lighter setting.

Also assuming the bar is an 09 too might pay to check the lines are all equal lengths, safety leash round a pole or clothesline hook all your loops and knots onto the clip hook into the harness have full power on the depower strap put a bit of weight on the lines and sheet the bar fully into the chicken loop, all lines should be the same length/tension
