Hi guys,
I am newbie in kitesurfing, though have done some windsurfing in the past. Could you please recommend me size for a kite and size for a board. I am in the area around Brisbane (I guess Redcliffe is where guys from Brisbane go)? My weight is 74 kg.

I would prefer to jump right to high quality equipment, cause it does not take much time for me (hopefully) to get going (talking from past windsurfing experience).

Presently I am looking at Cabrinha (love the recoil system on those) and North kites (seems to be tough to tear those ones).

Thanks,
Al.

Hi Al. Our SE QLD winds can be ordinary at times. For your weight you can look at something around 10-12 m. I'm 83kg and fly a 10m bandit dos most of the time but most guys around my area and similar weight fly 12m Cabrinha Switchblades or else they're into smaller flexifoil c-kites. North are a top brand also. Try before you buy if possible. Board size between 130-136, bigger is better when learning.

Drop in to see the guys at Kitepower Qld in Redcliffe, they do lessons and have heaps of quality gear including 2011 Cab 11M Switchys on clearance, Ozone C4 12M, something in the 1.30 to 1.35/36 for boards, now is a great time to get into the sport, you have the whole summer to get up to speed. Kiting is quite different to windsurfing, get some time on a trainer kite, this sport is all about kite flying skill.

We help transit many windsurfers to kitesurfers and have a wide range of new & used gear. All packages come with free lessons too.

Kitesurfing is no joke and you need lessons. Drop in to have a look what we have for offer. We are right on the beach and easily reached by public transport. Also have storage, hot showers, kitchen facilities as well as free internet stations.

Hi this is pretty simple dont get anything to small its the main reason so many people struggle and SE QLD isnt real windy . Lots of people in your weight ( Im 72kgs ) go out and buy a 9 or 10 and struggle when they should have got a 12 or 14. I have had guys for lessons who have been struggling for ages and all Ive done is given them a bigger kite and a few tips and there up and having fun. Make sure you get somthing with a full flagging system not just depower or reride. And go the big names North ,Naish, Fone, Cab, Slingshot, the resale is better.(just my opinion ).
Have Fun George
