Hi guys. Just looking around at gear ATM and have all I need really but would love to give kiting in waves more of a go. I've been in the white water and gutters mainly on a twin tip but seeing guys on a surf board meshing it all together looks like so much fun. Only first season kiting but confident on board and relaunch etc plus up wind. Not much of a surfer but a few full snow seasons of snowboarding thinks I can get everything that get her some time... I'm 90 kgs. Hear a lot from surfer mates about FireWire boards? Just go for something 6 foot with straps to get started?

Please disregard this obviously over asked question... Just had to look a little further! Cheers

First up, learn to ride toe side proficiently to make the most of the waves.
A mutant like the Axis Twin wave is a good introduction to waves or get a cheap surfboard with low rocker and give it a go. If your home break is pretty choppy footstraps will help until you are ready for unstrapped.

One thing to consider is if you'd like to end up riding strapless just skip the straps all together. Learn on an old 6ft ish surfboard that's not to skinny and you should be right, once you've got the hang of things then look for a kite specific surfboard.
