New to kiteboarding so still at the confusion stage of the variety of advice I get. I've had lessons and now looking at used gear because with 5 kids bleeding the life out of me just can't afford new.
I've been told not to go any older than 2012 for a kite as there were changes to safety systems at this year. Is this true of every kite? Are 2010/2011 kites not as safe and why? Just wondering if there are any say 2010 onwards alternatives that are still as safe so I can keep my options open and costs down.
Thanks.

cabrinha introduced their IDS in 2009 which to me was a step change in their safety. They only changed this again in 2014. the problem with these older kites will be their condition due to age. if the lines are original they will be well stretched and probably past their use by date. it is getting harder to get spares for older kites.

All safety about the same after 2008/9
as smithy says gear does get worn out from use.
is you can find something 2010 that hasn't been used much you are on a winner

No real change since 2007. This changes with each year so beams can sell newer kites IMO.
Single flagout safety or fifth line is your safest bet.

Thanks lads.
I'm looking at a North Evo, rates well from what I've read and in my budget. Getting tired of shopping around.. so much choice, so much differing opinion. Just need to commit and get going, work out what I like and dislike later.
Just the board to go...

Everyone has an opinion mine is the EVO's are crap! get a fuse or rebel if you want on old North.

Nah that's done NickT.. ironically, picked up a 2013 Evo at a good price. I'm sure it'll be good enough to learn on.
