hey gang

first post, new to it all but its a complete addiction now.

Have booked a trip to Hua Hin from 10 May and want to know if anyone's been there and can give me a bit of advice on what kind of kite to take.

I've read that the wind drops off a little mid may and ranges from 12-20 knots and comes in in the arvo. Some websites I've read that say that women use 9-12m kites but I've only got an 8m Naish Park.

I've used it here and it works really well in 15-20 knot winds.

Can anyone shed a little light for me? thanks

I used to live and kite in Thailand. Although I never kited at Hui Hin the times I was down there from Bangkok there was always wind and small surf.

I used to spend a lot of time at Koh Samui, same coastline but further South than Hua Hin. I only had a 12 metre when I was living in Thailand and I always found I spent a lot of time waiting for wind, and then when it did come it would not get much over 20 knots. I was 76 kg at the time (83 kg now, gee I miss Thai food), so that may give you an indication of kite size.

Also, there are a lot of spots around Hua Hin that look awesome for kitesurfing, so if you go to the Summer Palace for a visit, take your kite. I remember being their and watching nice little rollers peeling down the beach on a cross shore 20 knoter, didn't have my kite so all I could do was dream.

I think there is a Kiteboarding Asia shop at Hua Hin, so it might be worth Googling them and asking them what conditions to expect. Although, I never had much luck with them in other places I visited in Thailand as they always put the Hard sell on me, which I found monotonous, but it may be worth a try.

Thanks Ercorn

appreciate the input. Maybe I will just hire one when I'm there and save me from dragging my gear all the way up there for 10 days.

OR...i'll succumb and let the dream of strong winds guide me

Mike, you should be there. missing out, although Europe is going to amazing

I reckon you might want something bigger than an 8m. You can hire gear but I found it to be not all that cheap.

Get one of those compression kits for your kite if you take it. KSS in scarbs sell them.

Check out Airstylers in Pak Nam Pran, just 30 mins south of Hua Hin. A lovely spot, much less crowded and the kite school is awesome. You will have to be lucky with wind... I didn't even get out once when i was there for a week but maybe you'll get lucky :D

Enjoy your travels,

Haydn.
