So i'm frothing at the mouth to go for a kite as i only had a handful of sessions at the end of last season...and after watching all these north westerlies come through during winter i've decided that I want a crack.

Forecast for sat arvo looks good and i'm keen to go to Pinnaroo pt. and see what happens.

Are NW's any different from SW, other than doing the walk of shame in the other direction...looks like you'd be setting up on the other side of the point and heading towards Hilarys boat harbour?

I'm at the level of riding ok and can do a bit of edging but I haven't gotten too familiar with kiting the ocean (just been out on the river).

Do my plans sound ok?

Take care at Pinnaroo in the NW. Not good down wind around the point towards Hilary's puts you on a very very busy dog and horse beach.

The NW'ers can be quite unpredictable.
they are generally gusty in nature, weather is very changable at a minutes notice and they can die off in a matter of seconds.

A few pointers i would give if your a noob

Watch the horizon, anything black evil and nasty coming get in get the kite down
Be very careful with kite selection NW'ers can kick a real hard punch
Make sure the place you are kiting has plenty of space downwind and not many people on the beach in case something happens.
Go with someone
If in any slightest doubt don't go out. Better to kite in steady SW summer seabreezes all season than stuff it up on a dodgy NW'er

Just a word of warning, my kiting buddy got into strife today at Pinneroo. Kite dropped and got tangled into a mess.

I wasn't there, however he told me it took him an hour to paddle in, finished up 200m from Hillarys.

Why don't you try a down winder from Trig to City/Freo? More fun that way.

Us boys are planning on going around 2 ish tomorrow, if your keen send me a private message with your mobile and you can join us.

^^^ Dudes only had a handful of lessons and your going to send him to trigg? that's gonna end up pear shaped for sure.
Go to Pinnas not Mullaloo and as Reli said keep an eye on the conditions coming. Yesterday was 23-25 then a squall to 35 came through. Be aware there is a lot if weed and little beach there at the moment to contend with aswell.

Yeah true, only a handful of lessons.

Id hate to see someone get whipped into the Floriet drain or City Beach Groyne.

Thats going to end in tears.

Hi Green Cherub
With little or no experience in the open ocean, a technique for relaunch probably based on being able to stand in shallow water, a gusterley NW or tomorrows really big S/WSW winds, I'd probably give it a miss.
There are much better winds and conditions only a few weeks away, stay at home and watch sports and drink beers rather that go out in conditions outside of your current skill set.

Killer kite at Mullaloo today with an awesome thrilling win by the Eagles.

Top day.

It probably was too windy for a learner with that lumpy swell caused by the NWer today. Mind you the 11m held up well in 29knot gusts.

Great day.
