After checking out Kurnell for the first time today (27/5) I've got a few (possibly stupid) questions....
Did anyone take an actual wind reading out there around 3pm? It felt a lot windier than seabreezes reported 20kts, and I'd like to know if my faceometer is accurate.
I ask this as I felt it was too windy to take my 14m Catalyst out, even at my 100kgs, yet I'm led to believe at my weight I should be ok in 20kts on it. Or do I just need a stiff drink of concrete???
Is it always that crowded out there? and why does everyone stay so close to shore and bunched together? I'm amazed I only witnessed a few mid air tangles! I did see a few wild moments on the beach too...
Is there a reason no one was kiting a little further west, the other side of the jetty bit?
Anyways, I did enjoy watching everyone ripping out there today, hopefully next time I'll get out!

I felt on the edge of overpowered on my 11m (at 80kg) at that time, and it was a bit gusty too.
Today it was almost dead onshore, which is why everyone was close to the shoreline and bunched together.
I was tempted by the water further west, but was slightly concerned about drifting downwind and not getting back to the launch point. I managed to get upwind of the crowds, and it was OK further out.
I think you probably did the right thing staying cautious today - gusty onshore winds with a big kite would be dangerous for a newb, no room for error and if you're not going upwind yet there wasn't anywhere except the carpark to kite to. It was a bit of a mission getting upwind through the crowds, but great once past the mayhem.
