Hi I have been wanting to learn to kitesurfing for some years now. I have had the occasional lesson here and there and got up the first time I put a board on my feet, but like most people I'm very busy and life and to many others sports got in the way of me becoming a confident enough handler of the kit to practice on my own. I know have the time to peruse it again this summer and my question is. I have a GK kite I bought new, the style with the bump in the leading edge, is this kite still worthy to learn on or is the a more safer kite these days to fly? I have not seen this kite being flown by anyone, so would like to know peoples thoughts. Cheers.

Don't know that kite but Id say that unless your hard up for cash look at a new kite, there is plenty of very safe and user friendly kites available that make learning easy

Speak with mike walker from kitethrills , he rode gk kites for a long while, at that age the safety should be in line with most, but the model may or may not be the friendliest for a beginner

Sounds like you have the GK Sonic. Good kite in its day and easy to learn on.

providing the bridle and lines are in good shape the VSonic should be fine. Prob and 2008 or 09 model. Check your lines and the quick (AKA not so quick) release on the bar, it's a fiddly pain in the arse. If you have access to a better 4 line bar then you should be fine.

Thanks for the advice. Got a lesson organised this week and the instructor is going to look over it all. Happy kiting.
