I wanna learn to jump bigger and further and that mean to add a kite loop in right??

I've been watching a few videos to try and get the gist of things.

I just don't get how it works.

So when you jump the kites at 12 you just steer hard to the opposite site?

So if i'm going to the right I jump I pull down hard on the left? In my mind that means the kite will steer to the left and I will superman through the air and hit the water hard. Should I just go for it?

Yeah you could just go for it - but you would probably only do it once!!

Have a bit of a read of this article:

www.thekiteboarder.com/2010/07/take-it-to-the-next-level-an-introduction-to-kite-loops/

Kite looping = commitment (a stronger commitment than even getting married LOL)

As the article says get comfortable with looping the kite while planted firmly on the water - then step it up to the full blown thing !!

Good Luck !

Brohan,

I would NOT advise trying to learn proper kiteloops or megaloops with the XR3. Typically you need a C kite that is no bigger than 9m.

What you should focus on first is making sure that your jumps are vertical and not long (downwind). This will ensure that when you do decide to loop, that the kite can actually catch you. Work on the timing of your edging and 'pop' relative to the send of your kite. When done correctly, you'll go straight up and not so much downwind.

The other thing you could work on that is crucial is downlooping. Downlooping is another essential skill and can be practiced without much danger. To downloop, you sheet the bar all the way just prior to landing and pull on your forward hand HARD. Initiate the downloop a second or 2 before landing to get the best effect.

Lastly, you may want to try a few unhooked kiteloops to get the hang of things. These are a bit easier than hooked in kiteloops and gave me heaps of confidence before trying megaloops.

But first of all, you may want to look at getting a 7m, 8m, or 9m C style kite before you trigger! We suggest Chaos, C4, or Fuel.

how big and far are you going?
looping tends to be a progression when you are going as big and as far as you can without looping
i.e. kite needs to be redirected for landing and a loop is the easiest way to do it.

Thanks for the info I thought my kite might not work to well, I can load and pop reasonably well I don't move much down wind. Oh well another reason to justify buying a new kite to the girlfriend :).

There was a video posted under general and a guy was jumping over a rock or a reef and he in the air for a long distance, I want to lean how to do that. I can pop up pretty high now but I don't travel that far?

Just realised I said kite looping instead of kite loop in the title opps lol.

I think I can loop my kite if I put it on the fast turning settings because I was out today and I pulled hard on one side and it looped around but 1/3 of the kite hit the water before it could come back up. Was this just luck?

If I were to try it what wind range should I be looking for 17-20knots?

I looped my 15m Xr2 today in 10ish knots, I think my 10m Xr3 will be fine to loop.

i have very limited experience, but so far i have found;

Ozone edges are hard to loop. Not impossible, but not ideal to learn on

Ozone C4, Epic Judge, Core GTS2, RPM are much much easier, more control and more fun.

So have a go on something like 'them there' kites. You will see the difference straight away.

You will get lots of confidence and land some.... then you will get smashed... hard

Lovin the new RPM 9m :)

Open C kites loop well also, I will be helping a few people learn kitelooping at botany in the next few weeks for a bit of fun when if there's wind and no kid minding, pm me if you want to hook up. The type of kite you have makes a difference, you can kite loop a 12m easy if you have a fast enough kite, but 10m and under is better. vid of me below kitelooping.

Line lengths are important, shorter lines for faster loops with less power, longer lines for more height and more power
( 17m lines to 27m lines can be used )

Some kites are very grunty without a lot of depower and will throw you in the loop, some kites are light and agile making looping easy / fast without much yanking down wind, and there is everything in between.
