Hi,

Is it a bad idea to leave my board (TT) and kite in the car all day whilst im at work?

Will the heat damage it like a regular surfboard?

Thanks

Yeah mate any heat is bad for rubbers and glue etc. Sure ur out in the sun with ur gear but having in a car all day can bugger it quick.

If your car is in a covered car park without direct sun it should be ok

Yeah, it's kind of like leaving a family pet in the car with the windows rolled up...

The kite especially suffers from hot car syndrome, some brands in particular are famed for having glue with a low 'reactivation' temperature. That said, if it was my gear, and it was the only option I had to go kiting or not, I'd probably give it a crack... at least until someone smashed my window and stole my gear. Then I'd be even more bitter and twisted ...

For what it's worth, I take my kite out of my car and stick it under my desk at work... and when asked what that 'thing' is, I tell people I'm going camping. Job done.

Yeah, we could dwell on why one would need four kites for one session (is the wind really that variable? From 12 knots to 90 knots?) But I'm quite interested to hear a.) what your boss is doing under the table, b.) whether this is with your blessing and c.) is this something that gets brought up in your performance review!!!

Hey Nik.
I have a 6' surfboard travel bag, will hold two kites, zipped up temperature stays pretty even, in a car. Use it to hold the spare kites when on the water.
work on site so bringing into work not an option.
cheers.

During a good season my gear spends more time in the car than at home and my mates never leaves his car, kites hold up fine. Although I put mine in the office around 40.

More a problem with older kites. I'd be a lot more worried about a surfbord in a car than a kite.

whats your ambient temperature?

I have my kites in the ute 24/7. I have no problems.

Note my temp over summer is between 20-30 deg c. Usually mid to low 20's.

Plus my ute canopy windows are hell dark tint. So that keeps the gear relatively cool on a hot day.

Your board will be fine in the car. I leave my twin tip in my car and have done for years now in over 40+ heat. No dramas at all. Kites on the other hand are bad news. North kites especially! Not sure what they stick there valve on with. Butter?? They may of fixed the problem now but back in 2010 and earlier the glue was NAF

I once took my board to work and my boss asked me where are the wheels! He thought it was a skate board.
