Hey Guys,

I have already taken a couple of lessons and flown a trainer for hours and now keen to buy some gear for this season.

I was looking at getting a 2010 Liquid Force Envy Kite.
I am 84kgs about 180cm tall and was thinking a 12 metre kite.

What are your thought on the liquid force envy kite for a first kite? Or what other kites would you recommend?

Thanks.

there is a guy we ride with that likes LF gear, looks good to me. I think a 12m might be a bit big for a one kite quiver for your size, a 10, would probably make a better kite or get a 8-12 which would be great.

Location, location, location???
12m would be right as a one kite quiver in Melbourne/Sydney... but if your over in Perf you might want to consider something a little bit smaller.

liquid force = problems. Cheap nasty and so many problems with splitting from LE to TE.

Stick with Slingshot, Core, Naish, Wainman or even a Cabrinha. (Even Cabs are better quality and good learner kites than a LF) But someone who sells LF will say they're awesome as they actually get a better mark up than other kites. If you don't believe me ask around. There are schools in QLD that flog them off like hotcakes as they push push push the brand. But saying this they have had a lot of kites get sent back (20+) to the distributor in Brisbane.

But I guess if you like LF kites your mind is already made up. But after 3 months you will realise that they are pretty average.

The Envy is the most versatile kite and won many kiters over. It is very responsive, very well built. People who say LF is crap has no idea what they are talking about. You only have to try and look at one closely and you will find it hard to find another kite in the market better built and as joy to fly. Since the kite came out we have not had one single Envy returned for warranty. I have no hesitation to put it on the top shelf with all other top end kites.

If you live in Brisbane at 84kg a 12m will give you the most kiting time.

I agree both liquid force Havic and Envy are popular in Central Queensland. We have been flying them for years and have had no problems with gear failure. We have had less problems then with Slingshots Octane

What size board are you on? In my mind this will probably determine what size to go for out of 10m or 12m for Sydney kite spots.

I kite at locations just 50min north of Sydney and fly a 2010 Liquid Force Havoc 12m as a one kite quiver and weigh just over 90kgs. There have only been 2 occasions in whole of last season that I could not kite because the wind was too strong, but there was no one else out then either.

Solid build quality is the primary reason I chose my kite. Have since had a session on a 2010 Envy 12m which was awesome. I have noticed that lots of new kites are taking up the 3 strut platform like the Envy, so they must be onto something. For this reason I have already ordered an Envy for next season.

I was thinking maybe a 142 for a board.

Cheers, thanks for your help.

I agree, I purchased a LF 2010 Envy12m that I am learning with, I bought it new, and in the beginning smashed it countless of times on both water, and beach… and still going strong.. I find it very easy to use, and love the safety features, as the 100% de-power works a treat. I am sure all the other kite brands are great too, but there certainly is not a problems with the LF
