Hi guys have just started out and am soon moving to a mining town near Mackay. I want to know of the best kite beaches in/around mackay. What are the best kite shops and if there is anyone there looking of people to go kiting with?

Cheers

Tosh

Hey there ToshAuer. Town Beach at high tide seems to be popular and there is a guy there most days with a mobile shop/trailer setup Adrenaline Rush Sports Australia Mackay Town Beach 0448 736 551 . I don't actually kite surf but live around the corner and often go past there on the way home. There are other beaches close by also, but I would say this is probably the best place to get info on whats around the place and you will find plenty of keen people to go kiting with.
All the best with your ventures and enjoy the region.

Never seen any crocks here, just heaps of stingrays. Stinger suit should be worn during the summer I reckon, but a lot of people don't wear them.

Tosh, to answer your question. You have quite a lot of options here in Mackay depending on wind direction.

S-SE-E Winds

Town beach is the prime pick, it's best ridden either side of high tide. you'll find most local riders here and the Adrenaline Rush mobile there too. When our king tides hit we have 5m+ highs and 1m low's I would not recommend heading there on a low, unless you feel like a 3km walk to get on the water.

East Point, is the best place to ride on the low, and you get some nice little swell to play in there too.

N-NE

Bucasia Beach either side of high.

Blacks Beach on the low.

Hope that helps.

personally I don't mind the low tide walk out, pluses are that you usually get it all to yourself and you get to kite the tide back in
tomorrow arv's looking good

Is it seriously a 3km walk at low? I've spent some time at clairview and I thought it was a long way out at low tide but 3 km that's nuts

I don't mind the walk either, although there are heaps of places to go to get out of the crowd. Most kite surfers here only kite in a small area just off Main Beach.

Yeah, I reckon the walks would be at least 3km if you keep riding on an outgoing tide.

Yeah, it's a hike on the big tides!

As Ercorn said, there are lots of other spots if you want to get away from the crowds. But as a beginner it's good to have other kiters around if things do go wrong. Best thing about Town Beach is that it was waist deep water for those 3km, so you can always stand up in the water.

If you're ever heading down or unsure on best location, just shoot me a PM.

I hope so. Sounds like the perfect spot for land kiting. Anyone down there doing ATB land kiting / buggying?
