Hi all..
Its time for me to upgrade my kites. I am currently riding 2012 Rebels which I have had since I was beginner. But am seeking something more c-ish for unhooking/loops..
However I am a tad concerned that I may be jumping the gun skill wise, and would hate for my skills to stall due to bad kite choice.
This is my third season kiting. I suppose I'm probably still classed as an intermediate beginner. Happily kiting up wind, boosting, front/back roll, raley/gayly..
Kite wise, I have been offered a quiver of 2014 Vegas's in fantastic condition. Am i Crazy? Would I be better of with something like a dice?
Cheers

Go straight for c kites. They will help massively if you want to improve on your unhooking and aren't as scary as everyone makes them out to be. They do require slightly different technique but you'll soon get the hang of it if your conscious of it.
Just remember that 2014 kites are actually manufactured in 2013 so you could be buying an almost five year old kite. Even if they haven't been ridden they will be starting to wear.
I highly recommend Naish Torches if you decide to get c kites

I've flown the 2014 Vegas, in my view it's a really easy c hybrid to fly, great pop and boost, upwind no probs.

Hey pooperscooper.
The question to go full C or something in between is a good one, however C kites have come a long way and despite there reputation now have a good wind range and with the 5th line are very stable and if you learn to use the 5th to aid relaunching, you can get them up quicker than your rebel's.
It would probably only take you a couple of sessions to get used to the increased speed and the responsiveness
IMHO the rebel is about the worst kite out there for unhooking and it does little during a loop ( that may be good for learning, but will drop you like a stone on big loops) so anything you get would be an improvement
A couple of weeks ago I did a comparison between the Airush Union ( intermediate bridled C) and the Airush Razor (Alex Pastors signature model, a true C ) the review is in the review section. Hopefully that might answer some of your questions.

Hey Guys..
Thanks for your comments.
I've never actually ridden a C kite before, so this is all new to me. And as a couple of you guys have said they are made out to be wild bucking beasts.
My main concern is struggling to get up wind. Everything else I can deal with and am happy to put the time and effort into, but if I struggle to hold ground that is going to annoy me.
Its a four kite quiver. So I don't believe wind range will be an issue other then the lightest of days.

Nah man C kites are sweet as.
Less power per m2 than a bow. You'll be loving it. Vegases are awesome too.
I'd be wary of kites that old cos the valves might be getting ready to fall off. That said I only got rid of my 2010 vegas last season and that was due to the bar dieing rather than the bladders. Thrashed that kite so hard, it was the best.
I have had multiple terrible experiences with Naish Torches and their phucking valves, I think they stick them on with childrens craft paste or something! And to repair them is just asking for constant problems and a kite you can never fully trust again.

Don't worry about a full c.
Iv been on full c kites for years but moved to the best ts, and now on slingshot rpm.
C kites a cool for the slack you get but in all honesty you won't need to worry about slack until your AT LEAST throwing some doubles. Even then look at Mario and zoon. Doing all there tricks on an open c.
And honestly if you keep your kite low enough you can slack every kite.
If if I were you, I would be looking at an open c with a bridel. Like the rpm, C4, dice and xr4.

Hey Kemp!
Mate, it's one of your old posts that had/has me doubting going the full c kite*..
If I can ride half as good as you Id be happy. And your doing it on a brideled kite.
*Not even sure if the vegas is classed as a full c???

2013/14 Vegas are a great kite
jump really big with decent hang for a c kite, you'll certainly lack s bit of low end but due to rapid turning it still generates decent pull, when it's cranking I've not had a kite that lets you get away such high winds, it remains rock solid due to the loaded 5 th
I've found myself automatically looping on most of my transitions now, great feel and feedback at the bar too, you'll find the kite redirects overhead a lot more during transitions compared to the rebel so you have to adjust a fair bit, this is especially noticeable on big carving transitions or slashing the top off waves, so maybe why the loop feels more natural
as mentioned above the rpm, c4 and another kite I loved gts core,
