Hi guys, I am still a beginner and have gotten my hands on a Naish Aero 10m 4-line kite. I was wondering how this would do as a first kite (obviously after I have logged enough trainer kite hours and lessons)?

Hi and welcolme to seabreeze - i started kiting 3 years ago on a Naish Boxer 10m 2006 kite so fairly similar, i think the Aero is even older!. Kites prior to 2007 had little to no de-power, which will hinder your developement and personal safety in learning by possibly hurting or injuring yourself due to its lack of de power/saftey systems and wind range. Spend the xtra bucks and get a kite a few years old with heaps more de-power and safety and you will not regret the investment. You may regret trying to learn on an old C kite though, as i did after breaking several bones - get a bow/sle or something newer than an 2007. speaking from personal experience

Yeh not the ideal kite these days. There are stacks of good second hand gear on here that you will progress much faster with.

The other major issue with these older kites is that you will spend a fortune on them to keep em flying. Common issues with bladders (valves coming off), canopy stretched and week, lack of depower, antiquated safety systems, and difficult to get parts for them. Do yourself a favour and get some better gear or I pretty much garantee you wil have a bad experience that may scare you away from the sport for good.

My son learnt on a Naish Aero 10m years ago. He learnt to body drag and eventually get up on the board with it but it was only when he started using a Switchblade 2007 (way back then!) that his riding went to a whole new level. The difference was amazing. I really wouldn't bother with an old kite like that anymore.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll look into some second hand bow kites. First I need to get my hands on a trainer. Any recommendations on what to get? I have a mate who recently purchased a HQ Hydra H2O Relaunch (which looks great), however he said it broke way too easily. I'm around 95kg's and have had a bit of experience flying an old 7m Slingshot Torque eighty-eight around in light winds without too much trouble. I'd like to get a powerful 3.5m but there are so many out there my head spins whenever I browse online!
