Thanks heaps bigtone, was going to start at Botany and do lesions through Kitepower (would these guys be the best)? Once I build up my kiting I was going to head to Kurnell or Narabeen for kitesurfing. Nice to see I'm on the right track cheers, thanks again and happy kiting.
Kitepower have one or two (or a hundred individuals) who have tried kite boarding/surfing before....... they can help.
Here some other spots to consider to keep you kiting all year round from Sydney to Nelson Bay:
1. NE/NW Kurnell: Kurnell seems to get the NE before any other spot in Sydney in summer. It does get very choppy if it really blows but it is fun. Great Winter Spot when NW.
2. NE Dolls Point: NE and may work SW .... does get massively choppy if tide is running the wrong way against the wind.
3. NE/E/SE Brighton (car park 3): Fun spot close to the city of Sydney if you want a summer afternoon run after work. This is place to learn. The northern most car parks get a little crowded with the more experienced riders. Just be wary of the netted swimming area and the rock groynes.
4. SE Sandringham at the Skiff Club: Wind blows really nicely all the way from Cronulla down a really nice funnel. Pretty cool spot and smooth!
5. NE Narrabeen Fishermans (long reef): South most end of Narrabeen has a really nice little harbour that is mostly protected from waves. Fun Spot which will allow you to get out to Long Reef.
6. NE/E/SE Narrabeen SLSC: 50 metres north of the Surf Life Saving Club, great surf/ocean location. Plenty of great kiters there to learn from.
7. SE/SWS Umina: Awesome protected ocean/surf spot .... I rate it the best SE spot that I have been to so far. The little waves are great to learn on over the sand bar and you get some great bigger breaks across the front of sand bars.
8. NE Wamberal: Another really nice surf spot with a big launch area
9. SW/NW Picnic Point Entrance: Very onshore launch location, so you need to be able to body drag out before launch, but has huge flat water areas.
10. NE Norah Head: Protected ocean/surf spot .... Rock reef provides a good launch spot with mostly flat water when the tide is low. Easy to kite into the surf. Plenty of surf spots North of the surf club
11. NE/SE Northern End Caves Beach: Another really nice surf spot with a big launch area on the beach or out the back on the grass. Nice place to have a drink at the end of the day as well.
12. NE Salts Bay - Swansea Channel: Best flat water NE location I have tried. Very Very Flat!!!! You can kite out of the channel into the surf at the head of the channel or on Blacksmiths Beach
13. SW/W Swansea Co-op: Best SW spot I have tried, about 500 metres by 500 metre worth of 1 to 2 foot deep water. Very smooth!!! Can be gusty if there is a lot of west but a Great Winter Spot
14. NW Squids Ink Belmont: Best NW spot I have tried, about 300 metres by 300 metre worth of 1 to 2 foot deep water. Very smooth!!! Great Winter Spot
15. NE Redhead Beach/Blacksmith Beach: Great surf spot or downwinder (14k's worth).
16. SE Marmong: Mostly flat lake area with huge 500 metre runs can get choppy (but not like Kurnell/Botany Bay)
17. NE/SE Nobbies Beach: Protected ocean/surf spot .... Rock reef provides a good launch spot with mostly flat water when the tide is low. Easy to kite into the surf.
18. W/SW/SE/S/E Birubi (North North Stockton Beach) .... Awesome winter spot if you need surf, just make sure there is no north in the wind or New Zealand is your next stop.
