Amigos,
Firstly I am new to kitesurfing as I have only just got rid of all my windsurfing gear. I am after some advice on a good kite and board combo to learn on and progress If i am honest I want to get some airtime in eventually as that is one of the big draw cards for me. The wind are mainly sth east or nth east around 15 to 25 knts on most afternoons with a short sharp powerless chop I am heading down to surf connect next week to look though his old stock 2010 and 2011. I am 90 kgs and have been spending a lot of time on a trainer kite. Paddy from surf connect is going to be giving me some lessons and hopefully some advice as well. What do you blokes reckon should be part of my first kit. Any advice most welcome. Cheers Pete

Sounds like your already on the right track by getting lessons and talking to a shop about gear. There are a few brands on the market at the moment, and there are about ten kites i can think of off the top of my head that would be good to learn on. Just try a few and go with the one that is a good deal. Second hand maybe because everyone trashes there first kite

Shop around for lessons and your gear. All the shops are itching for a sale of old gear this time of year and you have 3 shops within km's of each other to bargain with. Good luck.

From surf connect you head towrds the bridge to Redcliffe and you will find Briskites at brighton and then go over the bridge and the first thing over there is Kitepower.

For your size and conditions I'd look at something like a Cabrinha Xbow, Flexifoil atom, naish helix/park 12m and 138cm board. As has been said, there's a lot to choose from and 2nd hand is a good start.

Sunshine coast kitesurfing has recommended at 10mtr bandit delta for me with about a 138 board does this sound right to you guys. I questioned whether i was to heavy but they explained that the bandits have a good power range. any comments. I have read some posts that they are difficult to relaunch with a high bar pressure and the emergeny release could be better? But others a quite positive regards Pete

You'll be in winds to learn prob btween 12-18knots,at 90kg youll prob be a little underpowered in the lighter stuff and with no real experience on how to work the kite for power you may struggle a little,i'd be more inclined to start with a 12 and add a smaller kite (8-9m)down the track.

Sorry not familiar with the liquid force kites ,none around my area,i would go for a bow ie Helix,Xbow,Chimera, style kite,if the Liquid force fits in this style then yes, rather than looking at a 5th line kite or a c-hybrid,bows are more forgiving and usually have a wider useable windrange for a beginner.
Either board sounds fine whats the width on the boards.

Yes the liquid force is a delta type kite quite good reviews and very stable. Only downside is not a very good jumper but as abeginner that is a fair way away anyway I guess. Thanks for your help

Paddy pushes the LF stuff pretty hard, particularly the Envys. Personally I don't like the feel of pivotal turning which some people rave on about. There are tonnes of other good kites on the market (slingshot, wainman, cabrihna, north - just to name a few) so make sure you consider these.

Btw, my 2011 Envy suffered a leading to trailing-edge rip on my second session due to poor manufacturing quality. ML waterspouts (LF's importer) didn't do squat about it. Keep that level of support in the back of your mind if you do go with LF.

Just recently got the Griffin Argo Package kite ,board ,harness from briskites for well under 2k .
Most of the big names seem to be around that just for the kite and second hand seems to be around about the gold price

Just picked up a 2011 11m cabrhina Convert brand new 2012 bar system cabrhina 144 board, bag and harness all new for $1850 from Kite action. Very happy with purchase. paul from Kite Action was a great help and even though the wind was fickle we went down to the beach and went through setup and he flew the kite so I could see how and why the set up was as it was. Cheers Pete
No wind for lessons all weekend though darnit. Now I will have to drive back.

sounds like decent package, though you may need bigger kite down the track for our east coast winds. The bandit you considered is a fantastic kite, though I'd start on the Cab first. I'm 83kg and fly 10m bandit dos, though I would have found it a handfull to start on.
