Hi all,
I am new to kitesurfing and have the chance to purchase an Airush DNA package with 10m kite, vox board and harness. Package is second hand, hardly used for just over $1000. Is this a good package for someone new to the sport?
I am based in the northern suburbs so I will be looking for a reputable teaching school for the start of next season. I will be using my training kite over winter to keep my hand in.
Any other starter kit options advice appreciated bearing in mind cost is a factor.
Thanks in advance

It is a decent beginner package. Just note that DNA doesn't have one pump system, so you need to pump all the structs and LE individually, not a big deal but a minor inconvenience. Also, please post your weight and the wind-range you get in your area, that will help give you more suggestions.

I have a 12m DNA and am very happy with it. I like the multiple point inflation because I typically deflate the leading edge and then can carry the partially inflated kite somewhere else to dry, remove sand etc.

For some reason they upgraded me from the VOX board to the Switch. In any case my one criticism is that the standard board at 138cm was too small for my lardy 90kg and slowed my progress until I got myself a bigger board from another manufacturer.

I liked the DNA enough that I was disappointed to find it does not come in a 9m so I got a 9m Lithium which is basically the same thing.

I am only one year into this adventure and have been out around 30 times. So basically still a beginner.

Thanks for the heads up. My weight is 76kg and wind range in Perth's summer months is 15-25 km/h.

wind range in Perth's summer months is 18-25 KNOTS...The DNA is a powerful kite an a 10m would be fine for your body weight but not at 25 knots. On strong days of 25 knots or more, you will be overpowered at 76 kg starting around 23 knots ish.

Spot on cbulota. I'm 75kg's and am very very over-powered when it gets to 20knots. I think if i had a board with less rocker I'd be a bit better as it gets to the point where I just bounce off chop

I hope you kept the 138 Dave, cos your gonna be looking for a smaller better board once you progress. At 95 kegs, I started on a 145 which was great to learn on but dropped down to a 138 in my second season. I tried a few different sizes and brands but found that 138 was perfect for my weight.

@lee50, Christian's (cbulota) advice is spot on. As long as that gear is no more than 2-3 yrs old, it's a good buy.

Around the other way cobber. Less rocker gets you powered faster, don't believe me? Try riding on a wakeboard ;)

Yep, certainly did keep the 138. I haven't used it for a few months but have just started taking both boards along as I can see I will soon progress back to the smaller board. But for learning, a flat water spot and a 148cm Cab Spectrum was awesome.

Good luck if you need parts for a Airush The ZU don't carry and will not order any parts for kites. Friend has been waiting 8 months for a bridle On his DNA. Has given up and purchased another kite from another shop were you can get service. He did get it brand new from the ZU also.

I started on a 10m Lithium which is basically the same kite and 138cm board, and I've gotta disagree with the people saying you'll be overpowered at 23-25 knots. For me that's when it starts getting really fun. Not until 27 that I'm overpowered. I weigh around 75kgs
