Hey, i am seriously keen to take up kiteboarding or kite surfing what ever you wanna call it. im on the gold coast and it would be really awesome if someone wanted to run me through what i need to buy as a serious beginner and also where i can find someone that will give me lessons, or if any kind soal here would want to teach me themselves?

Keen to hear your replies :)

Hey Jackie,

Welcome to seabreeze, and great to hear you're keen on starting kiting - wicked sport, and plenty ways to do it ..

Friends & others certainly can teach, but if it's windy, you might be asking them to give up their addiction, which ain't always so easy .. that's were paid lessons come in handy...

Plus, you get to try out kites without committing... makes for an easy entry into the sport..

Have a squiz at these if you haven't already:

And plenty more here

I'm on the other side of the country, so that's about all the help I can offer right now...

Hope that helps..

Enjoy - you'll never look back!

If you're serious about participating in these forums (in addition to actually kiting), my best advice is: lose the stink-boat avatar pic. Apart from a few meatheads for whom kites are just the poor man's boat, we're a bunch of wind-powered nature-lovers.

And yes, seabreeze participation is a sport, vaguely related to various water sports.

Welcome, and enjoy!

For lessons, check out these guys kitethrills.com/
we send our beginners up there to work with Mikey and co, but getting away from the cold for a nice kite probably isn't a problem for you!
Goodluck.

Hi Jackie,

I'd suggest you pop into one of your local shops (e.g., Roar Industries or SurfFX) and have a chat, maybe get yourself on a waitlist for some lessons. I did lessons both with Guy from SurfFX and with Dave from Roar and both are good, patient instructors (I should point out that by the time I did my lessons with them I'd already gotten the hang of flying the kite, body dragging, etc and was really just trying to get up on the board, so I don't know how they are with absolute beginners.) There are other instructors on the Coast, but these are the ones with whom I am familiar.

Still, lessons and gear can get expensive very quickly, so I think you'd be best to check out some of the threads here on Seabreeze or to pop into one of the shops for a bit of a chat first.

Good luck!

Some of us just love the feeling of grunt and speed, whether it be wind, wave or motors. So why not add another addiction to your collection!

All good advice above.

I dont mind stink boats got 1 myself but the rest of the advice is good .Get lessons and your insructor will tell you what to buy .If you can get as knew as you can it wont break as often while your learning and even the dearest stuff is more fun and cheaper than a jet ski
Hope this helps George
