Howdy
Names Jon, im 22. After spending hours oogling the many kiters we have around here i decided to take the plunge and get myself involved.
Current gear iv got a 6m Naish helix 09' & a 9m Naish Park '12 - weigh around 65kg, 174cm and a BEST TT, 129 (could be a bit small??)
Anyway, had a lesson a couple of seasons ago but didnt make much of it, this year iv committed myself. Have had a lesson (which i completed 2 hours ago with KiteWest Just to refresh things and zipped through it competently.
The lesson was split up from monday & today due to lack of winds on mon and today from the get go Thijs the instructor (good bloke) said normally they cancel the lesson if its above 24kn but i told him i was keen as a bean and we went through.
Iv got no problems with body dragging upwind, water relaunching and control the kite pretty comfortably, i have the tethered launch/land down pact as i practiced this a fair bit. the little 6m is a zippy thing though especially in 30kn winds this arvo. So i began waterstarting and i admit i struggled it was a complete different feeling to being towed (i skurf alot) and also have spent time on a cable park. eventually i did stand up for a couple of seconds but fell on my ass.
Will try again in lighter winds..
Cheers

Good on you Jon, I had lessons with Kitewest back in February and am going well now. It's a great sport.
I normally kite at Horrocks on the weekend, so if you fancy a change in scenery head up, and catch you there.
Enjoy the experience and stay safe!
Cheers

Hey man,
Yeah getting in heaps of time down at glendining, also kited in perth over the weekend (meville & woodman pt), pretty chaotic the amount of beginners/show offs/guys getting on their own feet.
I can waterstart confidently now, just need to control speed when going downwind, upwind is fine being goofy, all thanks to you haha..
