Pretty sure bar length and line lengths vary with kite sizes especially between a 5m and a 14m as a small kite usually has a smaller bar around 40 something cm and the bigger kites have 50 something cm bar for more movement
At the moment I've got a 7m and 10m, and two sets of bar and lines. I guess they are the same length but I cant be certain I suppose. Looking at getting a couple more kites in due course but wondering if I need yet another set or two of bar and lines.. Was kinda hoping not to..
You should be able to fly a smaller kite with the bar and lines you have but smaller kites are more nippy and might not have to move the bar as much to get it to respond and maybe more movement on a larger one but should be fine
I had North kites last year, may be wrong but I don't think the bar was changed in 2012 apart from the grip. They was only one bar size and line length. On the smaller kites re-tie the steering lines so that they go from the inside of the attachment lugs, and tie the knot on the outside. This will effectively reduce the bar length by 2". On the bigger sizes have the lines going from the outside with the retaining knot on the inside. This will effectively increase the bar length Does not make it very practical to use the same bar for different kite sizes as it a bit of a fart around. Hope this makes sense.
North produces the same bar for all kites, the only difference being the type of line setup (4 lines or 5 lines). All lines are the same length regardless of the type of line setup or kite size. You have the option of reducing the bar length by changing the knots from the outside of the bar ends (default setup) to the inside of the bar ends. This will make your bar length roughly 10cm shorter and will dramatically slow your turning speed down, but could be an interesting adjustment for a 5, 6 or 7m kite or for a learner.
Just read your bar manual and it will explain everything you need to know about your bar and the adjustments you can make.
