dave...... said...Have you had proper lessons? If not I wont help you, you bought an old kite?, and I know the cheap fix, but no lessons no advice. PM me, sailing background aint good enough. Beaches are under threat already. Yes its a wing, just like a sail, but it goes up in the air. Cheap and nasty for beginners. Look at notice to noobs thread. You could be oblivious to the dangers to yourself and others.

Ok, relax Dave, I have had three lessons in total from certified IKO trainers, 6hrs total. I am no expert - but I havn't asked how to kite, the question (which I believe was fair) relates to the hardware, which I have very little experience with (O-mighty-one). I am with you on the safety front, and I appreciate you looking out for me, however just ease up on the assumptions. Feel free to PM me should you have any doubts.
The kite was purchased second hand, however it was not an 'old' kite. Further reading has lead me to believe that this is a relatively common issue for kites have been left in the sun and heated up. Since this kite was freighted over, back of a truck/plane/train, this is entirely possible.
The kite is fixed, for others that don't want to be flamed, free advice. Tarzan makes a very affordable plastics glue, a contact adhesive. Apply to both sides allow to touch dry, and press and hold for 1minute.
As for others, very much appreciate your advice and suggestions. The board is still finless, but I have received further advice that this isn't the right board to learn on.
