Hi I have 2010 14mtr ozone catalist which i baught for my girlfriend to use, its a great kite but i have found that it is prone to flying to far forward and then dropping on slack lines. this makes it hard for my girlfriend as she is still learning and it scares the crap out of her!!!!
is this a common occurance with this kite?? or can it be tuned to prevent this from happening.
at first i thought it was due to flying it in marginal winds but yesterday it happend in 15 to 17 knots.

any info would be appreciated

I wouldn't recommend to use a 14m in light wind to learn how to kite. In 15-17 knots your GF should be using a smaller size kite (i.e. 10m if around roughly 60-75kg). a 14m kite should be only for heavier dudes (110-120 kg+) or for light winds with an experienced rider. You'll save her lots of frustrations by simply avoiding to go out in anything below 15 knots... this will help her to built more confidence.

Other than that, make sure your kite is properly inflated (8psi for Catalyst), and that your 4 lines have an equal length (line tuning). Also it is much more likely the kite will drop on slack lines when you keep it a 12'Oclock, which most beginners do.

^^^ What he said, also keep the bar sheeted in a little as this will keep it sitting back a little further if it stalls push the bar out though.

Generaly the wind is not 15 to 17 Knots its more like 12 to 13 Knots she was not out yesterday i just thought i would have a crack on her kite for a change.
I am in broome and we always have light wind so we ride larger kites. the kite is basicly brand new so i think it would be a safe assumption that the line lengths would be correct ? but i will check them to be sure.
You are right it does only do it when the kite is sitting at twelve

See if there are any adjustment knots on your leader lines coming off the bar. Try shortening the lines by moving the attachment one place closer to the bar. The kite shouldn't stall, even at 12.

Would shortening the rear lines make the kite sit further back in the window? i will have a look this afternoon and see if there is any adjustment at the bar end, there is no option to change to a shorter knot at the kite.

Yes, kite should sit further back. This is instead of having to bar in to stop it stalling. When tuned correctly, the kite should be able to sit at twelve depowered with little hassle if the wind is decent. It's a good habit not to rest it at twelve generally though, particularly on the beach near people.

User error is the most likely cause here. Get her to stop flying it forward at the top of the window at full speed.

No that will just make it stall when you pull the bar in. There are knots under the floats to adjust for stretched front lines, but Ozone lines never stretch much, since the fronts are 500kg.
Just don't park the kite at 12, keep it moving and keep a bit of tension on the rear lines, do not sheet out suddenly when the kite is overhead.
