Hi everyone, this is my first post!!!!

Just after a bit of help understanding kite piloting during carve turns...
A little about me... Ive got the water start down and I can go upwind no problem and slide the board to toe side and ride toe side no problem either.

So I can carve round to form heal side to toe side with ease (i have a background in surfing) but when I dive the kite in the new direction (fairly fast) the lines slack and the kite stalls.....

Anyone gotten through this problem? Am I not turning tight enough and getting ahead of the kite or not figure 8ing the kite fast enough. (I'm a little afraid of getting ripped of my board)

Thanks guys.

Turn the kite before the board.

That makes sense. I am bringing the kite up to 12, initiating the carve and when I am just about down wind I dive the kite... After the kite dives or while it's diving the lines slack. I'm still moving quite quick as I have a big board.

Like I said I'm just afraid of getting pulled too hard in the opposit direction but I guess I just got to give it a go😝
Cheers

Lines are going slack because the kite is either at the edge of the window and/or you are heading downwind towards it too much.

Just send the kite across the window in the opposite direction then do a tight carve and follow the kite.

To add a bit of tension to the lines, I usually carve upwind a bit when I turn the kite, then start the carve as the kite begins to pull.

This is what I do.

First up, get up a bit of speed by running off the wind a little, not too much though, and load up the kite by pulling in the bar. Bear away a bit more. Now dive the kite close to the water and then turn it over. Dont' take it 12 O'clock but keep it low. It will pull like a train.

Lean into the turn and lift the heel of your back foot to apply pressure to the leeward rail of your board as you come round toeside. Drag your new back hand, if you wish, for stability. Follow the kite through the turn.

Like other have said, if the lines go slack you have not committed enough to the turn.

If it starts to pull you too hard just bear away a bit and then reapply toeside pressure, sheetout a bit if necessary.

First of all, you are going toeside before the transition, . The guys are right in one way especially turtle hunter with advice to heelside transitions. You follow the kite the kite cant follow you. Initating the kite turn, before you transition will fix your problem.

Going toeside to make carve turns is great fun, and you can throw buckets off your "rail". when going toeside, keep the pressure on your rail and turn the kite before you turn AKA turtlehunter, the best way to do massive carve turns is to bring your kite a little higher before your turn, and downloop it radically so it missed the water. this will keep your body position for a hard turn and the kite angle/dangle will help you not lose your rail.

Thanks Everyone!!!!

That's exactly what I needed. I was doing completely the wrong thing. I have to move the kite and let it pull me through the carve instead of carving and then dropping the kite. Ill folow exacly what you say next time Im in the water. You guys are awesome and thanks for taking the time to explain and help out a fellow kiter.

Now I just have to wait for the wind....

Cheers,

Mark.
