hey people. I tried some un hooked raileys yesterday. I found it much easier to generate pop and lift while being unhooked. But A couple of times i found myself instead of coming down after doing the railey i would get lofted up real high and just dangle.

What am i doing wrong to cause this? I have a feeling im steering the kiite in the opposite direction instead of in the direction im heading.
Any tips advice will be appreciated cheers!

Keep your hands in the centre of the bar, if needed overlap the hand you are pulling on to avoid the kite steering up. Or just keep the kite lower than you are.

Try a C kite, fewer dangles. Spent some of last season getting dangled lots, changed to a C and problems solved. C's are much more forgiving learning unhooked stuff than an SLE, they depower more and for longer, giving you time to hook back in. I use and old yarga, it's great.

Your cranking on your back hand without realising.
You need to either consciously pull on your front hand after you've popped, or you need to move your front hand a little further out on the bar, with your back hand right in at the middle of the bar. In time, you'll dial it out.

True for performing unhooked moves but they're a ball ache to relaunch compared to SLE/bow style kites. At least you'll get a chance to practise you're kite relaunch learning unhooked stuff.

My yarga will relaunch quicker than my SLE's, almost too quick. You have to watch it as it can be ready to go before you are, does it automatically, no swimming or line pulling. Don't know if this is a 06 yarga thing but it is kind of weird.

4 line C's are meant to be a bugger to relaunch but this one isn't. Practicing surface passes at the moment and probably dumping it 15-20 times a session and no drama with relaunch. It has a thinner LE than a Fuel, maybe this helps.

Great for unhooked but will work you over bad with loops etc, I like an SLE for this stuff.

If you find yourself getting lofted in an unhooked raily as the kite aproaches 1or11 pull up drop your front hand off the bar and grab the other side of the bar(fishpole) the kite will loop flatout and you will land with a lot of speed. Should add a lot of style to a trick you have gotten wrong.[}:)]

Related question on unhooking:
When a lot younger (10 yrs ago ) I used to be able to do raleys wakeboarding at the cable park. I have not done any unhooked riding yet but am ready for it. Should I try raleys first hooked or unhooked?
Also, if anyone has got any good links to unhooking instructionals to post below that would be cool... :)

if you used to do them just un hook.
I remember learning them behind a boat and having so many heavy crashes
wish i learnt under a kite think it would have been easier on the body.

Well I think the first question has been already answered..
Rescueme, it is easier to learn raley's hooked in as less weight on hands.
Doing it unhooked you will learn better tecnique, and be much more similar to being behind the cable. Just remember to trim your kite in before unhooking so it won't over power.

On a different note, with the improvements in the hybrid kites these days you can do all the unhooked stuff on them, you don't have to have a c kite..
Look at dre, and the Aus nationals how amny guys were actually on c kites.
My advice yes some bow's are harder to do it on, but the easier and quicker you get the kite out of the water the more often you can try tricks.

I rode c's for years still love the fuel.. Yet these days I ride the rpm and feels so close I'm super stoked with it for anything unhooked..

Are you talking about the yarga made by "Best"? There's not another yarga out there I don't know about is there, because it sure doesn't sound like the yargas I used to own?

What line lengths and bar are you using? any info would be nice.
I am using an 06 yarga with a liquid force 12m m80 bar and 5 (long but not sure how long) line setup and just havnt gotten around to trimming up the yarga properly.
I heard the 06 was not too bad in hind site.
Im still to noob to raley tho!!!!

The more time you spend with your kite in the water the better you get at relauncing :)
The more tricks you try the more your kite will end up in the water :)
If you don't get your kite wet your not trying enough new stuff :)
