Hi all,

My girlfriend and I are getting more into kitesurfing, and I am expecting we will soon be buying our own gear. I have a question about sharing a quiver of kites.

I weigh 85kg, and she weighs around 55kg.
We were wanting to buy 3 kites between us. Just say for explanations sake, an 8m, 10m, and 12m.

This way on medium wind days, I use the 10m kite, and my GF uses the 8m
On lower wind days, I move up to the 12m, and my girlfriend moves up to 10m
On high wind days, I use the 8m, and my girlfriend takes photos from the beach (She's ok with it).

Does anyone else do this? Would it be a good idea?

Hi Zarb. I weigh 80 and my wife weighs 55. The scenarios you've described are fairly spot on. Some say a 3m gap in kites is ideal, but as there are 2 of us sharing, the 2m gap works well, depending on the kites. For a while we were flying bandits in 8, 10 and 12m. As our QLD winds can be ordinary, I often ended up on the 12 and my wife on the 10, though I could probably still manage the 10 but the 8 can be a bit light for her. We now still have all those kites, though she now rides a 9m ozone edge and I have a 10m Naish Park. The 12m is waiting on a new part and I haven't ridden it for a few months and surprisingly haven't missed it. As you gain experience you'll be surprised what wind range you can get out of a modern kite.
Your idea of kiting the small kite on windy days and her taking photos' is ideal. I have most fun on the old Bandit 8m in cranking winds.

Hi I just wanted to bump this first thread instead of making a new one to ask what is essentially the same question.

We have both decided on getting North Fuse kites, after being offered a very good deal on some run-out 2012 stock.

My girlfriend will definitely be using a 7m size, as she doesn't want anything too powerful, and it that will work well for me as a high wind kite.

As for me, I am torn between getting a 10m or 12m Fuse. I have not ridden anything larger than a 10m BWS Noise, and the lightest wind I have ridden in was about 15knots (how would the 10m Noise compare to a 10m Fuse in terms of light wind?). I struggled quite a bit on the Noise in those conditions, but am still a beginner so hopefully that light-wind skill will be something that comes easier as time passes.

What do you think? Would a 10m be more versatile until I decide to expand the quiver and get a +14m monster for 10knot days?

PS: I am planning on pairing up the Fuse (whatever size I choose) with a 139-144cm
Cab Chopstick board. Good size for me? Or something larger?

Hi Zarb, I am 93kgs and ride a 2012 11m Rebel as my main kite +15kts, a mate rides a 10m Rebel at 85kgs as his main kite..........I suggest go the 10m and get a light wind kite later if you want one.
