So my Dynabar line finally snapped at the splicepoint while I was doing my usual pre-flight dive and jump. I knew it was on it's way out, so no big drama there. I ended up rigging up a spesh little workaround to finish off my session, macGuiver would have been happy he didn't have to depend on it, nervous times all round.

Anyway, I was too lazy to fix it properly so today I just replaced it with a standard fixed hook spreader bar. OMFG does that suck serious ballbag! Mega wedgie when walking the kite for any distance, less upwind ability, uncomfortable getting out through the break, and on and on. I know this doesn't apply as much to a waist harness as it can slide but seriously if you sport a seat harness and you don't need to be seriously locked in for airs or whatever, race out and change your spreader bar to a dynabar or rope DYI version. It will be the best cash you spend on kit this season.

Needless to say I got straight home and cut up some spare dyneema and put the dynabar back into action. There ends my public service announcement for fellow nappy wearers who have been molested by their harnesses for far too long.

Thanks for tip, I am just starting out and have seat harness I will look into getting a Dynabar. A question for you, I find it a bit difficult to lean right back as I then have less reach on the bar to depower, do you have any tips for this? Assume practice, but if their is any little tips it would be great to know. Cheers

Generally with a seat harness the bar gets closer to you rather than farther away. If you have short arms you will need to modify the throw on your bar, take it in to your kite shop and they'll help you out. More likely though is you're talking about leaning right out when you're trying to edge hard against a gust. As a new person you will always forget about trimming the kite because it's one extra thing to remember as you're trying to remain in control.

A good rule of thumb to know whether you're overpowered or not is whether the bar is easy to reach if you let go of it. If it's too far away pull in on the trim strap a bit until it's within reach. After a while you'll get to know you're kite and it will become instinctive but in the early days you are more inclined to just hang on and hope for the best.

Trimming or depowering isn't just a safety thing, it can really help you go upwind a lot better so it's worthwhile getting used to using it.

Good luck!

Good tip - I've been using Dakine shorts with a Jaybar and a rope set up for a couple of years now. I use 2 pieces of rope just in case 1 breaks mid session.

2nd your point Dl33ta _ what's with all the "33"dudes on this thread, is there a special seabreeze club Laurie's not telling us about?
I stuck a Dyna 2009 model on my LF boardie's harness and never looked back. Ditto what he said, "best investment you'll make this year".
Mine doesn't have the rope but instead a versh of the freestyle bar. Works awesome for surfing but somethimes you hafta manually shift it when you jibe which takes 3\4 of a second so, too easy. I thought TT rolls would be affected with this mod but I never notice it. Everything goes the same except way more comfy in every single dept. Carn understand why there aren't tons of these around? They deserve a design award,
'cept for the black plastic washer that on the hook that slide's on the bar. I replaced it with a nut from a 10mm dyna bolt lol no pun intended, but it is way better than the plastic washer which lasts about 2 sesh's and is then 'kn f*d. All up , These things rule and make regular spreader bars look very basic.

I have two pair of seat harnesses and one them strangles the sack and the other is fine with a standard spreader bar.

Haha time to come up with the 33 secret handshake.

My dyneema fix lasted about 12 sessions before breaking with me about 50 meters offshore.. Doh! That will teach me for recycling an old lanyard off the boat. I've got the stainless slider on at the moment till I get some more spectra, not so great but still better than a fixed hook. Might implement the two rope rig as well I think.
