Hi all,
I'm an extreme beginner from Victoria. Currently in Bega traveling north into qld.
The wind seems good this arvo but I don't know any beginner friendly spots to try on the south coast. Nswkba locations are void of any spots around here.
Can someone please suggest some locations? Maybe Bermagui, Moruya?etc.
Thanks so much

Hi Dvand, I'm only familiar with the Batemans Bay area, where the best (only?) recommended kiting spot for newbies is Broulee beach. It's an expansive sandy beach that catches the onshore NE, but without too much swell. It's especially ideal in the southern corner, next to what used to be Broulee Island. Here the water is about 1m deep, or shallower at low tide.
Now that the Christmas period is over, you'll only find a handful of kiters at Broulee on a weekday afternoon (don't these people have jobs?) when the wind blows (and other spots are even less populated). Only problem is that the wind is becoming increasingly fickle and patchy as we move into winter - only 12 or 13 knots average on the 'windy' days this week.
Below is the summary provided on the NSW forum 6 months ago. Good luck, and hope the wind blows and that we see you there!
Hi MJDUDLEY87, in this part of the world, the only decent wind is north-easterly (from October until March or April) or southerlies (don't try to kite on any wind with a 'W' in its name). Broulee is only usually kite-surfed on a north-easterly. There are a couple of other locations in this area that are okay in a north-easterly, including Tomakin and the Moruya Rivermouth. These two locations are fairly small, and more than half a dozen riders would be considered a crowd. Tuross Head also holds potential. Broulee is quite expansive with plenty of room for the two dozen or more riders that you might find on a summer's afternoon during the holidays. There are plenty of deserted beaches that would be okay, but they are exposed to the open ocean, often with big waves or rough seas, so you'd need to know what you're doing. Expect the north-easterlies to blow anywhere from 10 to 25 knots most afternoons during summer (probably only averages two decent sessions per week). There's a really friendly and helpful group of kiters at Broulee, so drop down and make yourself known. It's really hard to find a location to kitesurf on a southerly in this area because most beaches run north-south and have nasty rocky headlands at either end. And the southerlies can be unpredictable, often grey and cold and not very attractive. Tomakin is one of the few locations where you can kitesurf a southerly or south-easterly. Better to head to the tropics during winter. Wannabe2

Jervis Bay would be your best bet. Kite beach at Vincentia or Broulee would also be ok albeit a little trickier.
