Hi,

I would like to get some advice from the members on how to go about getting lessons for myself (20+ years windsurfing experience), my 18 year old son (very sporty type) and 15 year old daughter (less sporty type).

Would like to do this as a family thing, but need to keep possible different levels of ability and learning speed in mind.

Have been playing around with a learner kite to get a bit of a feel for flying, but am under no illusions that we need lessons & guidance. Have the next 3-4 weeks off so am keen to arrange during this period.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pete

Also try KBL (Kiteboarding lessons) good bunch of guys that have a boat that takes you in the middle of the bay away from hard objects

Make sure, whoever you go with, you get one on one tuition over the whole lesson.

Thanks for the replies, have had two lessons with KBL - boat is definitely a plus for what we needed.

The instructor form KBL was Vit, and we were very happy with the way the lessons were run.

2 Of us (son & I) managed to get up & riding for short periods and I've bought a single set of gear so that we can practice & improve.

Daughter still needs to work on getting up on the board, and planning to spend some time with her once I have become a bit more proficient, to work with her to get going (and will get her to some more lessons if need be)

At this stage son & I are plan on working to get familiar with the gear we have bought, improving kite control & body dragging skills (the board does not come back to you by itself.... ) and spending more time on the board, as opposed to next to it.

Looking at suitably safe/shallow locations as advised elsewhere on this forum to practice over the next few weeks. One thing I am very clear on is that safety is key, unlike windsurfing things can get very hairy very quickly. My brother is an ED doctor in Hervey Bay and has seen his fair share of kitesurfing patients (getting dragged over coral is a messy business apparently)
