Hi all,

So far I have been kiting all four days I have been up in FnQLD, and hopefully I will be able to keep up the pace for the next 10 days I am here.
I am using the constant wind and flatish water to practice on my surfboard, and so far I am getting the hang of swapping feet and gybing.
But I still have not gotten the hang of generating the same amount of power as on my twin tip. And my kite skills go haywire in comparison. I cant seem to go upwind, the kite feels "floppy" especially when I gybe, and it frequently falls out of the sky with slack lines, or backstalls and drifts over in to the powerzone.
This is almost always proceeding a TT session where none of the above issues happen... So I am a little confused with what I am doing wrong.

Hi Zarb,

Advice I was given when learning to ride a surfboard was to leave the TT at home for a few sessions.

On a surfboard, no need to edge hard like on TT. Use the fins to direct you upwind. Focus on directing the board rather than edging.

As for gybes, I fly the kite towards 12 to get a bit of lift, then gybe and follow with a down stroke to keep you going.

Backstalling? Not sure about that. Usually has nothing to do with the board. Are you trying to ride too underpowered?
