A Very big thanks to everyone who helped me on sunday with my kite at nobbys. i was only on my third outing and got my lines crossed when launching my kite. my kite shot straight up picking me up with it and dropped me on my head and shoulder and smashed my wrist. I got dragged about 200metres towards the flags before my kite touched down.
Firstly a huge thanks to the girl i don't know who turned my kite over and weighed it down with sand. i honestly think this is the only reason my kite did not end up in the flagged area. thanks to another unknown three guys who came over to make sure i was alright.
Lastly but not least thanks to Jory my learning buddy for helpingme off the beach. and of course my wife .
I was so impressed at how not one person slagged me off for stuffing up. there seems to be a real "community" among kitesurfers which is an unexpected plus when coming into the sport. All the Newcastle guys and girls i have met so far are ultra friendly and keen to help a novice like me.

Thanks so much again to everyone for all their help.
I will be triple checking my lines next time.

glad to hear you're ok Try setting your lines up from behind the kite. You only have to reverse the bar so the red side is on the right (instead of the left). By doing so you can see yours lines run DIRECTLY and correctly to the right pigtails. I've been there before, but luckily my kite got stuck on a bluestone fence before it had the chance to pull me across a very busy road. safe riding

Firstly I'm an instructor so my comments are valid. Second, glad your ok. Third, did you pull your safety system when things turned bad? Did you get lessons previously?

Kite set up from back or front works. My preference is to set up from front of kite. It's foolproof. pull your bridles out from underneath and drag them to the front. chuck the lines down, seperate them and then bar correct way up in front of kite on sand..

It's not rocket science.

I have had some lessons and this was only my second time out with this kite.
I started with my kite down and laid my lines out from my bar to my kite. As taught by my instructor i threw the side lines away and connected the middle of the four lines first, the connected the side lines last. i then walked my lines back to my bar and found a twist. i walked them back from the bar to the kite and swapped the middle two lines over. walked back to the kite to launch and then BANG SPLAT OUCH!!!! Beacuse i hurt my wrist quite badly my buddy packed up my kite so i dont really know what went wrong. when the kite went up it started to spin. its an 11m kite and it was about 20knotts.
