I'm interested to know if anyone has any experience with this kite/brand. In a kite i'm probably looking for safety and stability, so good depower and predictability in the air. Will just be freestyling to begin with. I'm 65kg and live in Perth, though keen to head south with my kite as much as possible. Thinking about the 8m, any thoughts? Or perhaps suggestions for other kites?? Cheers

Hi, I don't know anything about Airush's but if you look at Cabrinha Switchblades they have good depower and have a great reliability. I'm am an intermediate to advanced rider and I ride a Slingshot RPM. It is supposedly good for beginners as well as advanced freestyle riders. If you are at all concerned talk to your local shop about what kites to get. Also I weigh the same as you and I have a 9m and a 12m. The 9 is good from about 17knots to 25knots after that I have gone out but it starts to get out of control and dangerous and if you can't get back in then you either destroy tour kite or brake some bones. Good luck and Good kiting.

The Lithium is the Customers version of the DNA which is a School kite (Lithium has one pump inflation and comes in pretty colours! DNA comes in Red, Red and Red, and is multi point inflation, every thing else the same)
The Lithium is a great kite and will do you for quite some time. Massive boost and great safety, Heaps of depower and easy to self land/launch. If you are anywhere near Airbourne Kiteboarding, pop in and see Damo and the crew as they might have a demo kite for you to try.
8m seems about right for you for the winds over there.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check out the kites mentioned. I've been to a few kite shops here in Perth, I'm starting to think that there's not a whole lot of difference between all-round kites at the beginner level, it just comes down to personal preference...

JayV - I own a 10m Airush Lithium 2011, ride a 130x40 TT and weigh in at 70kg. I live in Perth and as a general rule I am up and riding when the wind touches 16knots, 16-20ish being the sweet spot before any trimming is required. Top end on the 10m is 25knots with the kite depowered before it becomes a little sketchy. I am looking at adding a 8m kite to cover 20 knots plus days, having said that depends how this season pans out – spent 95% of last season on the 10m and only took my 9m (other brand, not Airush) out a handful of times. I am also looking at other board purchases to get in to the surf more so that is also influencing my decision to buy a 8m kite. Your choice of board size and type (TT or surfboard) should also be considered as part of the decision on what size kite to purchase. Board size and expected wind range you want to cover could be the difference between buying an 8/9/10m kite. All kite characteristics have been covered in various forums and on the Airush website, key points from my experience flying the kite are that it is a stable, park and ride kite with easy relaunch capabilities.

Thanks mate, I appreciate the feedback. I was told that at 65kgs I'd be better off gettig either a 7m or 8m, but from your experience it sounds like that's a bit small. If you're riding at 16 knots then I may have to wait til it hits like 18 knots on an 8m. I guess before I've been out a few times it's hard to guage what wind range I should buy for. For the board I was thinking TT, after many hours of body dragging!
