Tip number one, it's not shameful, we've all been there and experienced kiters should respect that.
Tip number two, only kite in ideal conditions when your learning. Say cross onshore, 16 to 25 knots.
Tip number three, watch progression beginner after each session, the specific chapter that your up to, and practice, practice, practice!
Sounds like the wind was too strong for your kite size and experience that day.
+100 this. Progression Beginner is awesome. And yes there is no shame in it.
Are you depowering the kite before walking up wind? If it's cross on shore, it should be possible to park the kite one side, lean against it the other side and use the power to help you run up wind... takes some practice, and I've had tonnes and tonnes of practice...
