I am very new to Kite surfing and so far all I have been doing is using a training kite. I am very keen to go further but I live in Broome WA so there are no courses here or kite surfing shops so I am wanting to know what size kite will I need and being 100kg does that affect the line size or board size required??

Hi Mike. You're obviously at a disadvantage if you can't take a few lessons. It is possible to get going without lessons, but not advisable. Are there any local kiters who are helpful? I learned from my wife actually and watched plenty of the progression series of DVD's. I'd suggest getting the DVD's as they explain the basics really well. If there are a few local kiters, they can give you advice on kite and board size, but at your weight you will need a decent size board, particularly when starting as it's easier to ride a bigger board. Look for something 138cm up to 150ish. I don't know your wind conditions so won't comment on kite size unless you can give average wind strengths.
The key to learning is persistence. At times you'll feel like there's no way you're going to get it, just keep going, it's well worth it.
Good luck.

Excellent thanks for your comments. There are a few local guys that I will catch up with. Thanks for the board size info.

I agree with the previous comment, lessons are obviously your best choice for the safety and professional advice factor. The next best option would be to speak with someone who has a few solid seasons under their belt and learn from them. If all else fails the training dvds (progression & others) are great for the basics. I had a couple of lessons and then spent plenty of time in the water to get the basics. This will be my third season and ive only got basic jumps and tricks down. There are plenty of guys who take up the sport, spend the $$$ only to give it away after a failed month or two of trying. Its not an easy sport, if it was everyone would be doing it, but the main tools you will need are some good advice and persistance... Enjoy.
