I'm sure this has been covered, but can't see it anywhere. I'd like to know the impact having a smaller twin tip board has on the wind.

I've been told that the smaller the board, the more wind you need (which I don't fully understand why, but happy to go with it for now).

So let's say I've got a 12m kite made by ACME manufaturer, and I find there is enough wind at 16knots for me to edge and go up wind on a 143cm and North Jamie 2013 model (for example), then how much more wind would i need if I changed this to a 133cm?

18knots? 24knots?

Salty,
Your equation is imcomplete, board width and amount of rocker are both as important, if not more so than length.

Flydoor XL 170x50
Flyradical L 138x42

Both with a similar amount of rocker.

Same kite... when I was going upwind easily on the 'door, I could swap to the 'radical and be comfortably going upwind.

When I was over-powered on the 'door (bearing off would pick up too much speed to edge out) I was having epic fun on the 'radical.

When I was over-powered on the 'radical, it was time to change the kite.

I have a 141 arcade and a 133 moneyshot if it's light on my 12m ie 12-14 the 141 is the way to go but if its 14-16+ then I'm on the moneyshot so I'd say the extra size equates to about 2 knots of wind at my 92kegs ,obviously a bigger door style tt will prob give you another knot down low but that's about it for that size kite.
Hope that helps.

Thanks boys. I'm on a 137 at present (80kg with the 12/10/9 quiver). Seems I could look at getting a 133 board and something slightly bigger (150?).

Appreciate the advice.

Whoops that's a 142 x 43 arcade ,for your weight you'd get away with something around that size as your light wind option,I personally like the arcade as it's got a fair bit of rocker so suits the moneyshot and I mainly ride in surf so it's great for getting through the whitewater,my mate has a king George and it's ultra smooth a joy to ride on the flat probably one of the smoothest boards ive ridden but a bit more of an effort in the surf lifting it over waves.

I wouldn't bother too much with a 3 board quiver. Save that little bit extra and get a smaller/larger kite size
