Complete noob question but, what makes a kite a good wave, freeride, freestyle kite. Say for wave riding would you want a faster turning kite, or more stable etc?

Roughly...
Wave - floats downwind nicely without falling out of the sky; stable but has rapid response to bar inputs; not lifty...
Freestyle - basically C-kites: lots of pop; fastest turning and looping...
Freeride - how do you like to diddle around? Usually, free-ride kites are jacks-of-all-trades, master of none. Many lean towards being semi-race kites with higher AR for good upwind and lift, but slower turning. However, it's often down to what a particular company thinks you should be doing while free-riding :D

In my opinion, if you fly any good kite enough and really get dialled-in to how it handles, you could probably use 1 kite for all 3 styles, as long as you're not trying to win competitions.
