Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if you could share a couple of nice locations around Sydney for Westerly winds. I know there aren't many, but worth to try. :)

In Sydney, Kurnell is the only real option. Be aware though westerlies are gusty and Kurnell has rock groynes, sharp shells in the shallows, sea urchins, narrow beach, bull sharks............have I missed anything?

Hi Mike
There are no NICE locations for kiting in westerlies along the whole east coast of NSW.The wind is gusty coming over the land and most beaches the wind is offshore. In Sydney as KIT33R has mentioned Kurnell would be OK ,but only for experienced kiters who have a good understanding of weather patterns through winter.Westerlies can go from 20 knots to 40 knots in a few minutes so you have to be prepared for that.My advice would be to check out Kurnell (and not kite ) when theres guys kiting there to get a feel for the place and advice off them. After that if you think you still cant get through winter without a kite the safest times to kite westerlies is when the fronts have passed and are moving away.

Only difference between Perth and here is there squalls normally have rain so it can be a bit easier to see the change coming.
