I have just completed my first lesson and was recommended by the instructor to get a kite to practice on before the next lesson (not a trainer kite, one I can eventually use).
I weigh 93 kgs and will be kitesurfing in Perth. Does anyone have any advise on what sort of Kite I should be looking for? I was recommended about an 11 but not sure really what else to look for.
Thanks

Yes that is a very hard question to answer as there are so many options/variables. The size recommended seems about right, although bear in mind that not all models come in 11 and a 10 or 12 might be a choice as well.
Do some research and see what is available. Post any choices you are thinking of here and people will let you know if it is suitable or not.
All brands have entry level kites, so ensure you get one of those. Later years are best and despite what people say there is little difference these days between the major brands - they are all pretty good. If you are looking at second hand kites get a 2007 or later model and always get a second opinon as there are a few dogs out there.

wtf!? if this is true your instructor needs a big kick in the ass.
what does he think you are going to practise? getting dragged into trees and fences or out to sea?
after one lesson you are not ready to be "practising" with a full size inflatable kite unless you have an instructor with you in an appropriate learning spot. you are not ready to fly an eleven metre kite on the land or on the water without supervision and instruction.
however, time spent on a trainer kite, well away from other beach users, will be very useful.
do everyone a favour, especially yourself, and get a new instructor.
