A painful reminder of something I've witnessed far too many times over the years.
Whether it's mates teaching mates or simply bad instructors, this is unfortunately too common.
A few things we can learn from this:
-If learning to fly on land, the student must be learning with a smaller, underpowered kite flown on shorter lines and wear a helmet
-Always avoid launching the kite with the bar pulled all the way in.
-Whenever possible, learn to fly standing in knee to waist deep water. The most dangerous place to fly a kite in on the land.
-Always develop the reflex of letting go of the bar at the early stages.
-Don't let your friend teach you to kitesurf.
