A painful reminder of something I've witnessed far too many times over the years.

Whether it's mates teaching mates or simply bad instructors, this is unfortunately too common.

A few things we can learn from this:

-If learning to fly on land, the student must be learning with a smaller, underpowered kite flown on shorter lines and wear a helmet

-Always avoid launching the kite with the bar pulled all the way in.

-Whenever possible, learn to fly standing in knee to waist deep water. The most dangerous place to fly a kite in on the land.

-Always develop the reflex of letting go of the bar at the early stages.

-Don't let your friend teach you to kitesurf.

I'd have thought anyone just capable of launching a kite would be able to teach better than that let alone someone claiming to be a (bad) instructor.Sure I read somewhere that she's broken a few vertebrae from this too

Load and pop. j/kSo much wrong with this. She should be standing in the water and the person holding the kite should be on the beach. The person holding the kite should be way upwind so she can walk up into it to launch rather than being dragged down the beach. She's panicking and pulling the bar in, making it worse but it's already far too late.Good point about helmets!
