7,9,12 or
8,11 if you want to just get two kites.

Not much point only having 1 kite. Just get used if money is an issue.

I came here with 8,11 around 80kilo worked fine. Still would.

^I'd go with that, bought an 11m (Switchblade) and to last season to learn on which went ok from 15 knots nudging up mid 20's.
Now have 8m and 11m Drifters but kite a strapless surfboard which gives the extra float, all I need.
I'm 84kgs btw.

DARTH finally lives up to his name and joins the Dark Side

You will have a better idea after some lessons. I was 80kg when I started. Had a 12m and 8m on a twin tip.

Considering you will want to learn on a twin tip, it is good having a big kite for 15-20 knots. 11m or 12m. I loved my 12m in that range when I started. However over 20 knots you need something smaller, say 8m or 9m.

If you want one kite maybe 10m. Try get two - 12/9m or 11/8m.

All big brands have "allrounders" which is the style of kite you will want. Get two of the same kite and one bar/lines.

Hehe, yea some mates are keen and I've been haunting the kite forum for a while.

I was thinking of an 11 or 12. But yea lessons, thats on the cards after xmas.

Defo looking at second hand, around $500.

Is it best to learn on a twin tip? I have an old 6,5 that would make a decent board I think and a mate has a board with straps as well.

Basically your 6'5 will suck.

Yes straps if you want to try surfboard.

Recommend twin tip first though.

Doggie, don't worry about kite sizes etc until you've had lessons! I suggest then playing around on a twin tip until comfortable before migrating to one of your surfboards.
But yes for your weight and Perth I'd look at an 11 and 8. If the winds not strong enough for the 11 (<16kn) it'll be boring for a hard core guy like you anyway
Costs... 2nd hand twin tip $350 and kites 2012 or newer $500 - 700.

It's good to get some hours on a trainer kite if you can borrow one from someone. When starting out kiting is all about kite control and far less about board control.

Yep onto it, got one coming. Could you power up a skateboard with one?
